All non-drop free mags have the 'U' cut at the top. All drop free mags are square at the top.
It has to do with whether it has a full metal lining or not. Partial metal lining on the inside lets the plastic expand so when it has some rounds in, it will not drop free. A square toped mag that doesn't drop free is probably just worn out and the metal lining is deformed. |
| also be aware glock does not say any of the mags they make are drop free- this is a misnomer- the fml are more likely to drop free but in most le academies that use glocks the training is to strip the mag out of the gun do not depend on any glock mag to drop free. period. |

This. Just because a magazine doesn't drop free doesn't mean that it should be a practice magazine only. |
