Up until recently, I've never bought a Glock because I didn't shoot it well with the way the grip was shaped. When the Gen4 came out, it finally fit my hand well but reports started to come in regarding reliability of the G19. Anyways, I decided to give it a try and bought a Gen4 G19 last week and was able to get to the range today. Here are the results:
Pistol -Gen4 G19 -03 Recoil spring assembly -Test fired 1 Nov 2010 Range -Indoor -Target at 8 yards Ammo -WWB 115gr FMJ, 200 rounds -Federal 115gr FMJ, 100 rounds -Blazer Brass 115gr FMJ, 50 rounds -Pow'r Ball 100gr +p, 20 rounds -Winchester PDX1 124gr JHP, 40 rounds Shot Sets -3 mags, 15 rounds per mag -Mag 1, 2 hands-controlled -Mag 2, 2 hands-double tap -Mag 3, 1 hand Group 1, WWB 115gr FMJ, 95 rounds FTF=0 FTE=0 Other(malfunction)=0 Ejection=strong at 3:00 Group 2, Federal 115gr FMJ, 45 rounds FTF=0 FTE=0 Other=0 Ejection=strong at 3:00 Group 3, Blazer Brass 115gr FMJ, 45 rounds FTF=0 FTE=0 Other=0 Ejection=strong at 3:00 Group 4, Pow'r Ball 100gr +p, 15 rounds FTF=0 FTE=0 Other=0 Ejection=strong at 3:00 Group 5, Mixed bag, 20 rounds For this, I had 5 WWB, 5 Federal, 5 Blazer and 5 Pow'r Ball thrown into a box and randomly loaded 2 mags with 10 rounds each. FTF=0 FTE=0 Other=0 Ejection=strong at 3:00 Group 6, WWB 115 FMJ, 100 rounds FTF=0 FTE=0 Other=0 Ejection=strong at 3:00 Group 7, Federal 115 FMJ, 50 rounds FTF=0 FTE=0 Other=0 Ejection=strong at 3:00 Group 8, PDX1 124gr JHP, 40 rounds FTF=0 FTE=0 Other=0 Ejection=strong at 3:00 After reading all of the various threads about Gen4 malfunctions, I expected to have several. I tried to setup different scenarios where a malfunction could occur. I shot a set of each ammo type (except the PDX1) at the beginning and end to see if clean vs. dirty would have an effect. I shot each type of ammo 3 ways (2 handed controlled, 2 handed double tap, 1 handed) to see if holding the pistol would have an effect. The mixed bag was something I thought of half way through when I wasn't getting any malfunctions. If anything, 2 mags of varying ammo to include 100gr +p should have caused some form of feedway malfunction. Lastly, the PDX1 was shot when I could get the pistol no dirtier. Again, since this is my EDC round, the pistol dirty would be a worst case scenario. All that I can say is that I'm very impressed. As you can see, I had zero malfunctions of any type. The Pow'r Ball was definitely snappy and the PDX1 had more kick but the G19 was virtually identical from the 1st round to the last. I think I may have started to piss off the shooter in the next stall because every single brass went to the same place, at 3:00 at a 45 degree angle. The mixed bag was kinda fun as one shot would be tame then the next shot would be snappy (the Pow'r Ball) and I never knew what the recoil would be like from one shot to the next. I wasn't shooting for accuracy today (as seen by the double taps) but everything was within 12" with 90% within 3". Bottom line, all rounds, regardless of how I shot, would hit heart or lung. I suppose I could try to do an endurance test with Wolf to see how dirty I can get it before a malfunction but with quality ammunition, I could not get it to malfunction. The Gen4 G19 NIB has now performed better than my M&P 9c and the G19 will now find a happy place on my hip as my EDC. |
