So I was finally issued my duty weapon...a brand new Glock 23 RTF2.
In its new holster, a Safariland 6378:
First thoughts: I disassembled and cleaned it the other night. I was rather unimpressed with the all-plastic guide rod, but otherwise it's typical Glock. The trigger on this one is quite light and crisp. When I opened the box and saw it had the RTF and fish-gill slide serrations, I was a little . The first time gripping the gun, the RTF texture was almost painful. After doing some practice draws, however, I quite like the grippiness––this puppy ain't coming loose. The funky slide serrations have grown on me a bit, too. They aren't as tactile as the straight serrations, but I've noticed no difficulties in racking the slide. Also, I think I'm going to like the straighter backstrap of the 23, more than the 22 or 27 I own; I don't like how the "swell" of the backstrap of the latter two feels.
Now, on to the holster: It was really freaking tight when I first slid the pistol in, even after loosening the retention adjustment screw. It has broken in a bit, though, and it's now a little smoother to draw from. I'm also not a big fan of the thumb release retention: The plastic button and lever just feel flimsy to me, and it requires a good bit of movement before releasing the pistol. It also rides very close to the body, making it difficult to find the release under the fold of my shirt (or under my love handle LOL). The paddle is a pain in the ass to get on and off, and has a 15 degree or so "FBI cant" that I'm also not fond of. The cant is non-adjustable. The holster also includes a belt loop, which I may try. It, however, is made of a flexible (almost rubber-like) plastic that doen't give me a whole lot of confidence. Overall, I'm not really impressed with the holster––all of my duty and off-duty OWB holsters are SERPAs, and that's honestly what I prefer. (My agency used to give us the choice of the 6378 or the SERPA, but now I guess not. )
In any case, I'll be qualifying with this tomorrow. I'll post my shooting impressions then. I'll also hold off on posting gratuitous Winchester Ranger ammo porn for now.
ETA: Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics.
