Do you change out your carry ammo?
I have a feeling I should change mine out, considering I have had the same two magazines full of ammo for the past 3 years! My .38 has had the same ammo for the same period and in my glove box every day! I have a feeling I should change it out soon!

Why? Ammo stays good for decades. Unless you're loading and unloading a lot, and you're worried about setback.

I cycle mine out every couple of months or when they start to look beat up. I shoot my carry gun often so I load and unload my carry rds often.

Yes the ammo will stay "good" for much longer, but you should really practice with what you carry.  I know it's costly so try and shoot your carry ammo (the ammo with you at all times) at least once a year and replace it.  End of problem.

Once a year is a good mark if you don't cycle through your ammo much. More often than that if you do.

I cycle through about once a year.  I try to cycle the ammo thorugh the mag, as I try to do dry fire drills fairly often.  I worry about set back if I rechamber that same top round.

I was just going to post a separate thread about bullet setback. Is it really that big of an issue? If you visibly check your rounds and they all look to be the same length when compared to each other, do you really have to worry?  The last thing I want to do is be in a situation where I need my gun and it blows up.

I change mine about every 6 months and try not to rechamber the same round too often. When I change the chambered round I place the old one at the bottom of the mag.

My department and all the other LE depts around here change out their carry ammo once a year. Most of the old stuff gets shot up during quals, never seen a failure with any of it. It wouldnt bother me to stretch it farther if I was buying my own.

I usually go around a year, but just to shoot it and not necessarily due to aging. I did have to burn up a bunch of RA9TA that was corroding (or something) really bad after a trip into the lake and forgetting to clean afterward.

Replace at any sign of set back. I think I'm due for some new stuff here shortly, I tend to unload and dryfire quite a bit.

As far as shooting the carry ammo, I'll check for function, but the recoil impulse isn't any different from Golden Saber to WWB, so I'm not burning $1 per round just to practice with what I carry. I'm going to transfer to Ranger T, so I'll have to do some more testing when I pick up some.

I dont have a set timeframe, but normally 6 months or so. I inspect my carry ammo every 3-6weeks depends on how dirty my pistol gets before it needs a good cleaning. When my pistol is broken down and being cleaned I will strip the magazine of ammo and inspect them all for OAL/bullet setback, and chewed up extractor marks on the rims. Sometime around 6months the bullet jacket, and brass case begin to kind of tarnish and change color, and the rim might have a few extractor marks in it and I will just shoot that ammo the next time I am out and put in new carry ammo.

I'm going to leave this story here -

Last time I shot with my Dad, he brought along his BHP.  He fired off some mags, 3 IIRC, that he had loaded when he came home from Vietnam in '68 or '69.

Not a single failure.

As always, YMMV.

I do all most the same thing.

Ammo will last several years. However, mine gets shot every month at a minimum. Are you saying you haven't shot your carry gun in 3 years or just shoot cheap FMJ when going to the range? I hope it's the latter.

+1

I shoot at least a few mags of cheap FMJ through my carry piece every time I'm at the range, every 6 weeks +/-.

I try to make it to the range weekly, so I cycle it through and load new ammo then.

I fire my weapons "as is" everytime I go to the range.  That way I know if they will really function properly as they are carried.  Basically my carry ammo gets refreshed with each range trip.

You might want to consider changing more frequently if your gun is stored loaded in a glovebox.  Given the potential temperature swings you may be atmospherically stressing the ammo more than those of us who go from one climate controlled enviro to another.
