My fiance and I are going to be in northern virginia in a couple weeks taking care of some business that I really want to be armed during. But my sister just moved to DC and wants us to come visit her while we're in the area. I'm unfamiliar with the extent of the No Handguns policy there. If I break it down and lock it in it's case and put it in the trunk, is that legal? Or are having the parts still breaking the law?
Any help/advice is appreciated. |

Don't take anything into the District. It's real bad gri-gri with all the confusion about the restrictions of ownership/possesion.
Even 1 piece of empty brass can cause huge headaches... When are you planning to visit? I allowed FFMedic to drop his carry guns in my safe for the weekend.... I might be willing to do the same for you. |

Previously, and could still be the case, every round of ammo was a potential felony; EACH. Unless your destination is outside DC, and you are just passing through, you can not bring a gun in. Do you qualify under HR218 for LE concealed carry? If not, do not bring it. |

I don't think that they are allowed period but you might try the HTF. FWIW if you are doing business that you feel like you need to be armed for than perhaps you need to consider doing business elsewhere. There's a thread about it in team, it's not "business" in the technical sense, just a situation where I'd rather be safe than sorry. |

I thought you can now legally posses a firearm in DC... DC GUN BAN REPEALED... can you still not posses a handgun in DC |

Quoted: If they don't allow you to have bullets or locked guns in a trunk, how to legal gun owners get them into their house where they're legal? ....are you planning to buy a house, then buy a new gun and go through the registration procedure at that time? If not, then you have no guns that qualify to be transported to your house in DC. |

I wasn't trying to be a smartass. I was genuinely asking how a DC resident would transport guns and ammo if it was strictly forbidden. Beyond "not allowed" I have no idea what the nuances of DC gun laws are. |

Apparently, they are being allowed to buy from FFL's in neighboring NoVA, and having those registered to themselves in DC, and taking the training, then bringing the guns home when they get approved. The gun law change was to allow legal home defense, but since a resident with a registered firearm can pack them up and take them to a range outside VA, it would be legal for them to do so. Though they probably still going to be hassled until their registration is checked out, etc. For everyone else, you have no legal destination inside DC to bring a firearm, but in theory if you were driving from NC to Maine, and happened to get routed through on I-395, you should be Ok if it's locked up, not in the passenger compartment, etc. If you get stopped though, and your trip was to a restaurant in DC, or your friend's/relative's/associate's house, you are not going to have a good encounter with Metro PD. |

Quoted: DC may have lost Heller but that doesn't change the fact they're still making it as hard as possible to have a gun in DC. Which is why Heller already has another case against DC in progress.Quoted: Quoted: If they don't allow you to have bullets or locked guns in a trunk, how to legal gun owners get them into their house where they're legal? ....are you planning to buy a house, then buy a new gun and go through the registration procedure at that time? I spent a week in Maryland for some training with my pregnant wife in '04, and we made a quick trip to D.C. one evening. Took the train to get there and back.
As a hick from the sticks, I've never missed my Glock more than I did that week. No wonder Heller sued... Be sure to swing by the white house, there are some interesting dudes in the bushes. |
