More common on left handed holsters. Just have to check more often. Good luck finding the MIA mag.

Even worse if you have a mag safety.

My first thought too.  I've never lost one but I have had the mag release on my BUG (P3AT, weak side back pocket).  I got some emery boards and am going to file down the release so it's more flush.

What kind of holster are you using?  I would definitely look into the cause and fix it instead of just hoping it doesn't happen again.  Is it possible that it wasn't seated properly to begin with?

its a crossbred IWB holster. i like the holster a lot. i think when i rolled off the sled i had a lot of weight on the plastic of the sled. its all i can think of. the gun sits good in the holster. just bumbed to be out a mag.

I know a cop that was in a shoot out with one round in his gun because of this. (gun was in his briefcase)  He was lucky.  Beretta 92.

2 is 1, 1 is none.

I remember seeing two officers at my old dept. walking into roll call one after the other––––both of them had the mags popped on their G21s.  As in, release had been hit, mag was slightly out.  Would have dropped upon the weapon being fired.  Probably more likely with the batman belts than with regular IWB/OWB carry, but something to pay attention to.  After any action that might have resulted in my weapon being struck against something or the like, I check that the mag is seated properly as soon as I am able to do so discreetly.

Yeah.  When I bought my M&P9c it turned out it came with a mag safety and limited capacity 10 rd mags.  I didn't know I had a choice until my brother bought one with no mag safety and full 12 rd mags.  Of course I have bought 12 rd mags but the mag safety bugs me a little.

I know you could remove the mag disconnect from the 3rd gen S&W's, I would be surprised if you could not remove it from the M&P line as well. I would think you could find a how to on the net someplace.

It's on his site but there seems to be no way of getting to it without knowing the URL...

i had not thought of this, perhaps this is a reason HK and Walther run the goofy trigger guard mag release?

No, but had several base plates blow off on 1911 mags. Still had the mag body, just no base plate, spring, follower, ammo!!!!!

I still don't get the reasoning behind the whole mag-safety thing.

It seems to me like it has much more opportunity to cause problems than it solves.

Additional and unnecessary safeties also have a tendency to breed bad habits in some shooters.

When I used to carry my Keltec, it would happen constantly. I have since stopped carrying it all together.

as for the "batman" belts, I've never once had that happen. I only use quality holsters (safariland) that have specially molded grooves that leave room for the mag release

My C-TAC holster guards the mag catch on my 23. I really like that feature.

Never.

Apparently the holsters I use do the job well.

Wow. I've never had this happen but your experience gave me something to think about. Hope you find the mag and maybe a different carry method.
