So why not have a pocket-holstered j-frame in a PJs / sweat-pants / shorts pocket while snoozing? |
|
Sure, the nightstand is the #1 go-to. But what about those middle-of-the-night visits to the loo or to tuck-in the kids (again), or to let the dog out? Sure, it could be uncomfortable at times, but carrying sometimes is. Shooting ones nutz off - now that IS a concern. But that risk would imply that pocket holsters are inherently unsafe - something I do not fully accept. However, this is along the reason behind why I ask. Is there something that makes such carry an unsafe practice? A recent "Boys' Life" (Scouts) recounted a scout's heroism rescuing a family member shot in the leg by a gun left in bed/sleeping area under a sleeping bag. |

Also, I would rather fumble around near my lamp,LED and phone to find my weapon than try to pull one out of my sweatpants. If someone is on top of me, other than my wife, it's too late. Some people are lucid dreamers or generally toss and turn sleepers. |

So why not have a pocket-holstered j-frame in a PJs / sweat-pants / shorts pocket while snoozing? I guess it depends on the PJs and your own individual sleep patterns. I wouldn't want the thing finding its way out of the pocket and/or holster while I tossed and turned at night. For that matter, many times on night shift during "down time" I've slept with two guns on me, one in the pocket just like you described, though it's actual pants, not PJs. Never had a problem. For me though, at night, in PJs, rather than have a gun in a pocket, it's a G17 w/ 33 rnd mag in, under the pillow. I'm a light sleeper, and am not "grabby" or "tossy-turny" when I sleep, so it works for me. I know it's not for everybody though. I suppose it's a very individual choice. |

Quoted: Quoted: I sleep with a 1911 in condition one on my chest. old habits are hard to kick A naked women would be a hell of a lot more comfy.......... and fun. You got a valid point there..... if 'n ya find one that don't mind cold steel on her back for a few hours a night, then brother, send her my way. |

We live in a crazy world nowdays. Before I go to bed I change into my black tactical jammies with matching ninja slippers and put on my tactical vest complete with extra mags for both the Glocks (33rounder, of course) and a couple of 30 round AR mags. I also make sure to have my handcuffs in the side pocket incase I have to subdue an intruder. The Glock is holstered on the vest and the back up G17 is under the pillow. The AR is in my right hand laying at my right side with my hand on the grip and my thumb on the safety. I've heard that bad guys will kick in the bedroom door, so I want to be ready. My tactical 308 battle/sniper rifle lays next to me in what used to be my wifes spot. She thought I was going overboard but, hey, its my life, right? She now sleeps in the other bedroom. (If she doesn't want to be serious about her safety thats her problem)
I try to sleep lightly and make sure I set the alarm every few hours for a quick patrol around the apartment. Better to have it and not need it,then to need it and not have it, right? |

I keep all my carry gear on when i get home. When I take it off to take a shower, the pistol and a light go under a hand towel on the counter, within arms reach. When I'm in my pajamas, which are camo cargo shorts and a tshirt, the pistol goes in the strong side front pocket, light in the rear weak side pocket, and a mag in the front weak side pocket. When I go to bed, the pistol goes under the pillow, the mag and the light go on the nightstand, inches from my head.
The shotgun is always with me, as well. It's on my toolbox at work, in my truck while I drive, and in my bedroom while I'm home. While I'm sleeping, it's at the foot of my bed. Consistency is key. |

Really?
