Right now the only handgun I own is an M&P40 and was wanting to start walking/jogging/biking.  What would be a good carry option?  I think a fanny pack would beat me up while jogging, but willing to try it.  I also thought about a shoulder holster under a hoodie or light jacket?  I need to get in shape before hunting season and would like to carry for protection from rabid skunks/racoons/coyotes.  Small town ND, not much to worry about from the two legged predators around here.....of course, you never do know, do you?

Tough one.  I tried the fanny pack once, and you are right it will beat on you.

Jogging is one of those times where I like a P-3AT with a pocket clip IWB with a belt.  Possibly you could get away with a PF-9, though it's substantially heavier.

I agree with the P3AT, that what I used to take out jogging, 380 auto is plenty for protection for 4 legged animals it even works for the two legged variety.

When I am out on the trails either running or biking I usually have a camelback type bag on that I will put the gun into.  It is not a fast draw, but it is there for animals and just in case situations.  Plus a fanny pack just says either tacky tourist or you are carrying in my mind.  With the camelback you at least have water, too.

Good idea with the camelback.  I have been wanting to get a smaller carry/backup gun, but the finances haven't been there.  I just looked at my camelback and my M&P ought to fit in it just fine.  It would definitly not be a fast draw but better than leaving it at home.  Thanks for all the help guys.

I've carried while biking a Glock IWB in a Blade Tech IWB W/ loops (not J hooks) and also a 1911 with just a clipdraw (belt clip) under a t shirt. Jogging/running is another story, I've lost 2 guns that fell out of my pants while running, but walking hiking and biking don't jostle you much and should be a piece of cake.

The fanny pack will be fine for the biking. I've used it and been very happy with how it works. I've used it road riding and mtn.biking. The smaller variety definately works better. I usually had a J-Frame and occasionally a G26 when bike commuting. It works with a camelbak type hydraton pack too. Most of them are short and a low-pro fanny-pack fits at 10:00 or 6:00 fine , or I suppose 2:00 for lefties.
Running. Tag for answers? Haven't figured that out yet. Haven't run for a long time tho. I often ran in the pre-dawn light and carried my flashlight. I considered just carrying the j-frame simply wrapped or in a brown bag and in my hand - but decided aginst it. Every way I've tried has not been worth it.

Camelback makes a model designed for a ccw in a bottom panel designed for it. I'll try to find it.

I carry my J Frame in an ACE belly band. It doesn't bounce around and can be worn under anything.
