Was just setting here doing my morning business reading the forums and thought "why not have a national open carry day"?
there is a day for everything else....why not. Would make people aware of the law. When I was younger(12-15yrs old) in the early 80's I nor the neighbors thought anything about me carrying a gun walking down the street on my way to the woods to shoot. Have a feeling the same thing would draw a croud today. I changed my mind. It needs to be an open carry month not just one day. |

Quoted: Why do you need congress to excercise your God-given rights? If you live in an open carry state then organize one. You don't need the blessing of the morons in DC. Not a god-given right. It's a right given to us by our founding fathers when they wrote the basic framework of our government. Leave religion at the door, it's man's realm. |

Well we can debate the existance of god in another forum....
Fact is, man wrote the constitution, & the rights enumerated in it are protected by the constitution, & enforced by man. By the way, Illinois is another no go for open carry.......god must have checked his omnipotence at the door here. |

The constitution doesn't give it, it recognizes it. Ya well I dont know if the supreme court will back you on that. They do interpret the law. It could say cheese is free on friday in the constitution, but if they say "its free only if you pay a dollar the day before" thats the way it will be. So to bear arms to the supreme court, I dont know, it could mean only during wartime to them. But luckily my state is open carry and I would participate. If you do it as a one day event, you may get more attention and more people to do it than just a month. |

I think an open carry day is a great idea. I have to admit though, there are a lot of libs around here and I'm chicken to attract the attention to myself. More power to anyone willing to do it though.
One thing I'd like to add about this God-given right stuff. I generally do not like to use that term in the context of guns, preferring to save it for things more explicitly God-given in the bible. However, I would support the idea of the right to arms being a God-given right in this way: Perhaps the most fundamental right of any human being is the right to life. This concept is clearly found in the bible. A necessary facet to the right to life is the right to defend it against those who would take it unjustly, otherwise, the right to life means very little. It reasonably follows that if we have the right to defend our lives, then we must have the right to a means of defending our lives, thus, a right to arms. This, of course, means that the right to arms predates the Bill of Rights by a longshot. The Constitution, written by men who recognized this concept (whether or not they actually believed in God), recognizes and preserves this basic concept in an authoritative legal document. The language of the ammendment suggests a pre-existing right, "...the right...shall not be infringed." As for the question "If it's a God-given right, why are people denied it?" The bible and the rest of history are packed full of people denying one another their rights and defying God at every opportunity. Welcome to a sin broken world. |

And I will never bet the lives of myself or my family, regardless of the odds. This sums it up." Forget the odds of being caught, forget about the odds of proving a point to the supreme court....its about the stakes!!!!!! :) |

CC has a tactical advantage that open carry will never have. I need that advantage because of the stakes. I am all about our rites, and will gladly do what I can to exercise them but when it comes to protecting my loved ones I prefer the tactical advantage of CC. |

I prefer no one know I'm armed to gain some kind of tactical advantage. Open carry also limits you to where you can shop or eat. |

I also dont want some thug sneaking up behind me and grabbing my gun and using it against me! CC does have a greater advantage. And by the way, I was just messing with you! |

There is a video one youtube 'open carry litter pickup' or something like that. A group of guys go out and pick up trash while OC'ing to promote awareness that it's legal in their state and to present a positive image. I'd do something like that if we could OC here.
