Ok so I am 20 years old, I will be turning 21 in the next few months...

My question is, can I take the course prior to my 21st birthday, and take the test on my birthday? Or do I have to be 21 to enroll in the course and take the test?

Thanks in advance

I took my class 6 months before my 21st birthday. The certificate is good for a year. Well in CT anyway

What do your state laws say...?  In OH, your training cert. is good for 6 years.  Technically a 15 y/o could take the class with their parents and be good by the time they're 21.

Check over in the Texas HTF. Good luck.

This, always ask state specific questions in your HTF.  In Arizona you can take the class 90 days in advance.  This knowledge does nothing for you though, since you are in TX.

You'll want to OK it with the instructor as well.

Texas requires you to be 21 at the time you submit your application.  It is 18 if you are active duty or honorably discharged military.

You can take the class up to one year before you submit your app, as the certificate is valid for one year from date of issue.

what he said. I would wait until at least 20.5 so that you will avoid any problems should you have a delay in submitting your app. I.E. stuck in hospital/don't have funds/lose something/or God forbid get a class A or B pending on your 21st bday

Make sure If you take it the day you turn 20.5 that you get the application submitted on your birthday.
