I put in for my CCW right before Christmas... I haven't heard a word so I called the local sherriff's office. The reply was that it is taking about 10-12 weeks, not to worry.

Wow.... there must be a LOT of new CCW's out there on the street these days!

By law, Virginia counties have 45 days to mail your permit or notify you that it's ready for pickup or that you've been denied.  10-12 weeks...yikes.  You're not in Boulder by chance are ya?

Many states have been swamped with applications since November, including Florida where they had to hire more people to help out.

Arizona's wait time went up drastically too.  It went from a 2 weeks wait, to a 2 month wait.

It's unfortunate that it's taking so long, but it is good that more people are getting CCW permits.

I'm not in Boulder, but almost as bad - Castle Rock. Here in Douglas county the stats show many, many CCW's already issued.

Texas has a similar law, but it's worthless if there are no consequences when they don't get it to you in that time frame.  I'm at 16 weeks since they received my application.  What sucks is some people have gotten theirs in just over a month.  All depends on where you live and how backed up the local office is that does the background checks.

What really sucks is I know some people are getting them just to get them. They're not ever carrying, so they're considerably slowing down the time for us actual users to get ours.

In Va, if you don't here from them in 45 days, you get a temp.

"If the court has not issued the permit or determined that the applicant is disqualified within 45 days of the date of receipt noted on the application, the clerk shall certify on the application that the 45-day period has expired, and send a copy of the certified application to the applicant. The certified application shall serve as a de facto permit, which shall expire 90 days after issuance, and shall be recognized as a valid concealed handgun permit when presented with a valid government-issued photo identification until the court issues a five-year permit or finds the applicant to be disqualified. If the applicant is found to be disqualified after the de facto permit is issued, the applicant shall surrender the de facto permit to the court and the disqualification shall be deemed a denial of the permit and a revocation of the de facto permit."

I applied with my County and got mine back in 8 days... yes 8 days.  ...by mail.
