Seeing as how we're *finally* getting something that looks like winter, I'm layering up when I head out. Didn't take me long to realize that this could cause some more-than-minor delays in drawing from my IWB holster. My band-aid solution is to tuck my layers between my torso and the pistol's grip (~ 4-o'clock) and then try to arrange the front so it stops screaming "pistol is tucked back here -->!!", leaving my outer jacket open.

Better than nothing but still uncomfortable and clunky as hell.

It's not cold enough for paddle-under-parka carry or a shoulder rig. My jacket pockets aren't all that deep and those that are show obvious signs that something chunky and heavy is hiding in them (plus the draw time would be just as bad if not worse). What are some other options? OWB for slightly less bunching? Move the IWB to 1- or 2-o'clock?

Seeing as how this is Colorado, it'll probably be 60 degrees and sunny again by the time anyone answers but, still, it'll be useful to know for next time.

Just carry the gun in your jacket pocket with your finger on the trigger.

j/k

I just carry IWB still. Course I sure as hell was not going to be walking around in that stuff yesterday.

Maybe a shoulder holster for that many layers? I have one that works great, but shows under thin layers (bulge). I think heavy outer layers would conceal it perfectly. Also quick to access compared to a pistol stuck between a bunch of layers. And the gun stays warm to boot.

Off duty I carry a HK USP40C in a IWB 365 days a year no matter what the weather is like.  Then again where I live we are lucky if we have 2-3 months of warm weather.

Gee, RickyJ, I was thinking of stuffing my glove with four single-shot .410s....

I'll likely keep goin' how I'm goin', although I should probably look a little at my wardrobe. I tend to wear a pullover fleece with an elasticized bottom - snug enough that it sometimes hangs when I practice pulling up the cover garments to clear my draw. Time to dress for the gun, I guess.

Kaotic, what position do you normally carry in (i.e. appendix, m.o.b., et cetera)?

I prefer SOB/MOB and 90% of the time that is how I carry.  Occasionaly I will carry on my hip in a Galco Fletch High Ride if I am wearing a heavy coat. To difficult to get to SOB with a heavy coat on.

For winter here in Central OR it's a hammerless .38 Spl snubbie in an outside coat pocket.  Don't even need to draw...

If hiking in the woods, I will sometimes carry my Beretta 92FS in a web belt with thigh extender for holster.  I look like a Ranger wanna-be, but it's pretty practical.

I carry in a paddle holster over the shirt and under my trenchcoat.  Works for me.

survival sheaths sells holsters that hold the gun in the center of your chest. Good for pulling out of a parka if you don't mind the barrel pointed at your nads or skull, depending on the set up
