Just wondering how the CCW community feels about the Judge for a carry gun. Seems like it might be a bit large but I like the idea of a .410 for PD. What do you all think |

What do you all think Let the Box O Truth help you make up your mind. Personally, I wouldn't get a Taurus product. Their record for quality is spotty and their Customer Service is universally known to be just plain bad. As for the gun, The 45 Colt round would do fine as a defensive round. .410 is a poor choice. The gun is too damn big to lug around all day. Far better choices for concealed carry. |
| My cousin has one for having fun with and thats about it. I dont see carrying it beeing a real option. FWIW his broke after only a few mixed rounds went through it. Something in the cylinder and it would not latch closed. He took it back to the dealer he got it from and they sent it out to get fixed. It didnt take too long and it seems to be working good now. He hasnt put as many rounds through it since he got it back so only time will tell if it will hold up this time. |

It's an interesting concept, but it fails in the real world. .410 shotgun is a bad self defense round no matter how it's loaded and as a 45 Colt revolver it's way bigger than needed. And, it's a Taurus. About the only use I could see for it is as a sidearm for a farmer/rancher who has a need of close range varmint/pest control and self defense. And even then I'd question if a 44 mag revolver with the first one or two chambers filled with shot capsules wouldn't be better. I can also see a limited niche for it as an anti car jacking gun, but I'd probably prefer a smaller, big bore 44 special revolver, at least it could be put in a pocket for out of car use. The only person I know that could pocket the Judge is Haystacks Calhoun. |

Get some of these and a real handgun. http://www.midwayusa.com/mediasvr.dll/image?saleitemid=648570 If you are afraid of being attacked by snakes or varmints... Otherwise, some bonded defensive ammo and a reliable gun platform is always preferable. I love how the pictures in the ad have a "shoot n see" target. The .410 makes a huge neon marked hole in the paper versus the 2 or 3 small handgun holes in the other target. Extremely effective!!! (if you are shooting at paper) |

Gotta love the internet!!
Don't own one, nor plan on it. But to say that it can't be a viable defense handgun at its intended purpose (close range-4 to 10ft-not yards as tested) is wrong. It might not be as good as other options, but it still would be a choice. |

If it is not up to par with other options, why would one even consider it? |

He also said that he liked the idea of .410 as a defensive round and Old_Painless demonstrated that it was a very poor choice as such. In an emergency situation most any handgun can be used in self defense and the Judge, being a .45, is certainly among them. But those here who know what they are talking about already answered the OP's question. |
