I already have a full sized 1911A1.
I want something smaller. I am not enthused about the G36/30. M&P Compact = meh I would like a steel framed compact 1911 ideally and could use some guidance. I do not want a para. |

My full size .45s are 1911a. But for carry I bought a Sig 220 Carry SAO with beavertail.
Same manual of arms as a 1911 being SAO with thumb safety, very light and their out there for about $600. There is a lot of internet stuff about the internal extractors being inferior to their new external extractors. But I have over 1000 rounds though mine(internal extractor) with zero malfunctions. Very carryable and shootable. YMMV Personally, I feel that a 1911 should be 5 inch. That said I have a friend that has an older Kimber subcompact that has been reliable for him. But it's still a pain to take down requiring a tool. |

I'd recommend a Kimber Ultra CDP II. I love mine, although I'm carrying my G19 in a MTAC at the moment. http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb107/motoracer51/CIMG0656.jpg +1 I have an older CDP II that I got used. It's my every day carry piece in a Comptac MTAC IWB. I love it. I'm looking to move up to a full size for cold weather carry though. |

The size of a Glock 19 but reliable with 8 rds and the option of using 10 rd mags from the full size M&P. Personally, I have never seen a shortened 1911 that was anywhere near 100% reliable when pushed very hard. IMHO |

A lawsuit would cost me too much money and time and I am trying to graduate by december. |

what about the colt new agent? I rather like mine!
..just ignore the Wilson 10 rd mag...I was messing with someone... After the $150 gift card rebate from Cabela's for making a $500+ purchase, I got it for $700.00 late last spring. I've had no problems with it: 300 rds of WWB 230 gr ball, 150 rds of 230 gr Hydrashok, and another 50 rds of 185 gr Gold Dot. No FTF or FTE...nothing. As shown above, I've been using the factory 7 rd mag, and then a Wilson 47DOXB 8rd mag for a reload (actually, it was once in a 47DCB configuration, but I changed the floorplate to the one they make for use in OM's). With the Lightweight alloy frame, recoil is harsher. On the first one or two 100+ rd range sessions with it, I did end up a groove worn in the web between my thumb and index finger, from the bottom edge of the grip safety's diminutive tang. Keeping the round count lower on each of the subsequent range sessions, I haven't had that problem anymore. I had to locktite the grip panel screws, as they were loosening every 100 rds or so. I put a VZ aluminum MSH, to replace the composite one that it comes with (as a preference). I have also replaced the recoil springs, as preventive maintenance after the 500 rd mark was reached. The sight channel works well enough at the kind of range I'd expect to use it. With the Gold Dot, my last group shot was 5 shots, overlapping, a few inches directly below my point of aim, shot from 10 yds. I'm happy with that... It's not supposed to be a national match gun. I'm not sure whether the point of impact was influenced by my hold, or the sights, but I can compensate for that. Carry-wise, it's barely noticeable, and that is great. I've been using a DeSantis Scorpion kydex IWB holster, that was made for my Desert Warrior, and other railed 5" Gov't model 1911's. If you want traditional sights, the Colt Defender is the stainless steel & alloy equivalent , and it was at Cabela's for $869, IIRC. There is e-coupon for Cabela's, good for $30 off, that expires on the 17th. http://information.cabelas.com/cabelasrebates/offer.jsp?cm_re=Feature*Static1*30off150_111008 |
