Do any of you carry at sporting events ie; local football games, Little League, Soccer matches etc?. With the recent post game little league shooting in the news, irrate parents, siblings and coaches that take things way too seriously and people who feel a cooler of beer is appropriate to consume at 9:30 AM at a 10 year old's soccer match I am growing quite concerned with those around me while in the audience. I currently lock my CCW in the center console of my car with a life jacket gun lock ( I lock the console box and car as well) when I arrive at the field to watch my sons play but am I being too careful or too careless when it comes to the protection of myself and family? It is illegal to have a CCW on school grounds ( in the building ) but the games are not sanctioned by the school. I would never attempt to break up an incident or confront anyone intoxicated at an event unless it directly confronted myself or a family member, that is what 911 is for. If trouble is brewing I usually move clear of it or just leave the event asap. With this in mind would you still carry on your person or leave it locked in the car?

the gun in your car is useless to you when you need it most. if you made the decision to carry, you need to make it a commitment all the time. the only gun that matters is the one on your person.

If it is illegal to have the gun on school grounds then you have answered your question from a legal standpoint. Sadly shit can happen anywhere, but this is one of a handful of places where it shouldn't (morning in suburban public with kids around). I suggest you obey the law and if you feel your concern is that legitimate, then you should feel that your kids are in danger and should take them out of the league. If on the other hand, you feel your kids are safe enough to be playing there, you should be all right with it in your car.

It's illegal to carry in TX at a professional sports event or on school premises or events sponsored by schools. However school property is something different unless the event is sponsored by the school.

Most of the kiddie sports events are not school sanctioned, nor on school property, so I have carried.

That being said, unless the people you speak of intend to use or display deadly force you are not justified. A medium can of pepper spray will end most aggressive encounters.

Big agreement.  If you are so worried about a place that you don't want to go there without a gun you probably shouldn't be going there in the first place, much less sending your family.

I carry everywhere.  Going to school grounds doesn't change a fucking thing regardless of the legal issues.  ANYTIME and ANY PLACE, it can happen.

I carry everywhere.

I'm gonna bet you don't (or won't!) carry at airports, federal court houses, and other places prohibited by law where there is a good chance you would get caught.  A person who only follows the law when they like the law and ignores it otherwise is a pretty good definition of a criminal, and it always amazes me the number of folks on gun sites that advocate violating the law or claim that they do so on a regular basis.  So much for the "law-abiding citizen" concept!

Sheep on, Fool!  You probably obeyed the Assault Weapons ban to the letter too.  GOOD JOB, BUDDY!  Now go put on your MOLON LAME hat and shirt!

Of course if on the off chance I go somewhere where there's a metal detector(I can't even remember the last time that was the case), that's a pretty good indication that I'll be safe without my pistol.  I'd think that Airports and anywhere you'd find metal detectors would be a common sense exclusion to my statement, but I forget this is AR15.com, and Common sense is anything but COMMON.

Would that include bragging about breaking the law on the internet?

I see.  In other words your claim that you would carry everywhere, and the ANYTIME and ANYPLACE rant is just so much hot air.  Thank you.

Sheep on, Fool!

LOL!!  Anytime you want to compare "sheepiness", let me know.  I know my background and experience and it is better than most here.

You probably obeyed the Assault Weapons ban to the letter too.

Sure, why not?  It didn't change my ability to defend myself and others at all.  Unlike some, apparently, I do respect the rule of law.

Anyone that has applied for and received a CCW license has usually received a publication from their state - there may be some exceptions - that outline the wheres and where-nots of CCW the dos and don'ts of the use of lethal force. Most states vary, some markedly, so any discussion that does not include each discussed state's clear set of laws governing this is speculation.

Go check www.packing.org to state. Most gun shops that sponsor CCW classes will sell you an authoritative publication - in FL, we call it "the green book" and it is about as authoritative as you can get and still understand legal points. It is written fairly clearly so someone without legal training can understand it.

Inform yourself about what you can and cannot do. When you go to another state, check out their laws and the laws of all states you pass through. Anything less than that comes up short of the responsibility that you have taken upon yourself.
