| As of July 1 of 06 Indiana now offers the option of a 4 yr carry permit and a life time permit! Yahooooooo The permit looks the same as it always has but with the exception of there is no expireation date. This is great gona renew my permit next spring to a life time permit (can only renew 180 day before old permit expires). The 4 yr permit i believe is something like $40 and the life time permit for current permit holders is $100 and those who dont have a valid permit $125 i think. Good news for all us Hoosiers. Hopefully other state will do the same as i understand there are several states concerering this. |
| Nope no qualifiing or even a ccw school, which i think would not be a bad idea for the novice, but i can see the other side of the coin also . Just apply which they go through a extreme check out fed and state as i understand it 4 yr and also lifetime, and if your cleared you are issued the permit. I have held a perperson protection permit (or permit to carry) for over 30 yrs and the life time permit is a welcome item. |
I've got my Life-time carry permit and it feels great! I just moved back from Maryland (Peoples Republic of) after 8yrs, and the first thing I did after getting my Indiana DL is to go to the police and fill out the paper work, fingerprints and all and 6wks later got it in the mail! Now, I think most police dept. have handgun courses that you can take free of charge, and would be a good idea if you are not trained w/ firearms (and are just good info), they also talk about where you can carry and where you can't (which is about everywhere), and they talk about open-carry verses concealed-carry and advise against open for a number of reasons (and most of their points are valid). Indiana and our Gov. believe in our rights to carry and just approved us to be able to carry in our State parks and other places that are under the DNR control! Great news keeps coming from our State House! |

I have one as well. Indiana has been great to firearm owners over the last year or so, yet many of Indiana gun owners continue to bitch about Mitch (our governor) despite: 1. Liftetime Carry Permits 2. Castle Doctorine 3. Carry in State Parks Sad, really. This man should have our support for signing these bills. |
Not to mention Daylight Savings Time and the Honda factory. I think he has a great chance of being re-elected. |
