| Getting my CCW/G30 in about a week and need some advice/ideas/vendors/websites on good solid carry rigs, money no issue when my life may depend on it. Any and all help is much appreciated. |

I carry my Glock 19 in a Comp-tac CTAC. It conceals well under even under a t-shirt, tucked or untucked. Very fast to draw from also. I also use one of their IDPA mag holster for a spare mag and flashlight holder for my surefire G2. If you prefer leather, the Milt Sparks Versa Max II is a great holster. Long wait though (I waited four and half months for mine). |
Would you be willing to which one you prefer? CTAC or VM2? Pros and cons of each? I am going back and forth on one or the other, without ever having seen either one in person. Thanks! Dave |
I'll do my best, but I should state that the CTAC is for my Glock 19 and the VMII is for my full size Kimber TLE, so it's not a direct comparison. Here's some things I've noticed on the range and wearing them around: VMII Pros: Hides a full size 1911 very well. Because of the angle it holds the gun, I think with holster will hide the grip of a gun better than any other. The belt loops are very secure and do a good job of supporting and distributing the weight of the gun. However you cannot make the weight go completely away; a full size, steel 1911 is heavy--there's no way around that. Very comfortable, especially carrying a gun this size. I experience no skin irritation, even with a 5" barrel. The tuckable, kydex clips hide completely behind the belt and attach securely to the pants. Cons: You have to change out the belt loops for clips when you want to tuck your shirt in around the holster. It's a pain to do and you have to carry around the extra clips and an alan wrench if you leave town or something. The kydex clips transfer the pistol weight to your pants instead of your belt. Leather is slower to draw from than kydex. The extreme forward can't that does a great job of hiding the grip makes for a less natural draw. This cant also makes the barrel of full size guns stick out the back of your pants a little bit. Not enough for anyone to notice, but it will be in the way of your back pocket if you keep your wallet there. Slightly heavier than the kydex holster. CTAC Pros: Kydex is fast to draw from. Very quick on and off of the holster using the clips. Adjustable cant. Distributes the weigh well--I forget my G19 is there. You can tuck your shirt around the gun without changing anything. With your shirt tucked around the gun, the belt still supports the weight of the gun. Slightly lighter than the leather holster. Cons: The rougher kydex can irritate your skin, however wearing a wife beater underneath eliminates this problem--I forget the gun is there when I wear one. The belt clips can be seen when the shirt is tucked, but comp-tac makes clips similar to the VMII's where the pants support the holster. You'd have to change them out though. The kydex belt clips aren't as secure as the VMII's belt loops, but I've never had them come off when I didn't want them to. Conclusion If concealment is the number one priority and you don't need to tuck your shirt in too often, go for the VMII. If you want an extremely versatile rig that is fast to draw from (IDPA, etc.) go for the CTAC. |

I like the Glock made slip through holster. Lightweight, thin, not expensive, durable, and they hug up nice and tight to your side. My G23 disappears under a loose t-shirt which is great for summer time CC. Get one of the expensive ones listed above (I'm sure they're great), but also pick up a Glock slip through and see what you think. I found mine in of a box of used stuff for $5 at a gun shop. |
