Finally got my CHL down here in Texas.  I'm carrying a satin silver Smith & Wesson Model 3906 in 9mm loaded with Remington JHP.  It is incredible how safe I feel now carrying a firearm, and the first day was interesting.  I'm a small guy, so I think the small of my back is the best place to carry, seeing how Texas weather calls for t-shirt and shorts as far as clothing.  I may start wearing button down shirts that are a little looser than my t-shirts.  Can anyone recommend a good holster for carrying my pistol inside my waistband?  I'm looking to spend less than $100 or so.  Thanks in advance!

I like Crossbreed holsters.   They are custom made, though, so there is a wait.

I've heard of people who carry small-of-back falling and hurting their spines. Best to move a little to the left or right (depending on strong hand), most find behind hip the best.

I dislike SOB because I don't feel like I can draw effectively from that spot, or protect my weapon if my shirt was to ride up and some jackass decides to grab it.

I also don't like the fact that if I did fall in a struggle my spine would fall on the gun.

However, I feel that the stories about people seriously injuring themselves this way are, for the most part, BS.  I'm sure it's happened.  So have a lot of other things that aren't worth worrying about.

That being said, my personal preference and recommendation to anybody asking is that they carry behind the hip strong-side.

I'm also from Texas and a Comp-tac CTAC makes my Sig P239 dissappear under a tucked or untucked t-shirt. I definately recommend carrying strong side IWB.

Advice taken.  The weapon feels more secure there... the only reason I put it back there the first few days was because I don't have a good holster yet, but I will have one soon for IWB carry.

Don't skimp on a holster. If you find one that works well in your price range, great. But the holster is (almost anyway) as important as the gun, and will largely dictate your ability to carry without fatigue. Most of us try several before finding a favorite (hence the box of holsters you hear about). You may get lucky on the first (especially asking here for recommendations) but don't count on it. Everyone is different, and what works for many may still not work for you.

As important as the holster is the belt. You NEED a proper belt, one designed specifically for carrying a gun. Don't beleive me, try. Many of us have tried to skimp there. That just makes carrying a pain (like a bad holster).

My favorites that work well for ME are the Milt Sparks Versa Max 2 with a Wilderness Instructor or Frequent Flyer belt.

YMMV. Void where prohibited. Discontinue use if redness or rash developes.....

+1 on Crossbreed! I carry my compact Baby Desert Eagle 9mm in one, and love it! It's tuckable, too, meaning that you can tuck your shirt between the holster and your pants waist.
I leave just a little extra material when I do this, to (a) make it look a little baggy over the pistol, and (b) to make it a little easier to pull my shirt up before drawing. I also wear my cell phone just in front of the holster; if anyone sees a bulge there they will think "cell phone" and go on with their lives.

The wait is 3-4 weeks if I remember right. I started a thread  about what and how people wear their hardware   here .

+1 on the belt.  I bought one from www.thebeltman.net.  I like it a lot.

If you haven't done so already, check out www.packing.org.  They have a lot of good info. on carrying.

Great great retailer.  I got my first holster from them and i still have it and use it daily.  have not ever needed another one.  good leather, nice tight fit on the firearm and allows for a smooth draw.  When i sit down, i can barely feel it...when i'm standing, the only reason i know its there is because i'm concious that i have a gun on my hip.  its worth a look.

i use the Cozy Partner.
