Need a small, cheap auto for carrying around the yard. Mostly would be used to dispatch the stray raccoon, but for some odd reason a lot of fugitives in the area lately. I have a Phoenix 22.r, and it would be decent, but it isn't the most reliable thing in the world.. Anything in the $200 range that doesn't totally suck? Don't care on caliber. Needs to be small, light, carried condition 3.

I don't have a lot of confidence in semi-auto mouse guns.  I pretty much gave up on my LCP,  which is the smallest semi I own in the smallest defensive caliber I'm willing to carry.

If I were in your shoes, I'd look at that Rock Island Armory snubby ( I think it's the model 206).  Maybe even a Taurus snubby, although I have no personal experience with them.

I have a newer BodyGuard 380 without the laser, and love it. It has real sights, is plenty accurate and doesn't hurt your hand to practice with. Mine ran right at 300 new which is a tad over your budget, but mine has ran 100% from day one on all kinds of ammo and home reloads.

Have been using my usual EDC lately, but a full size XD in 45 gets heavy and awkward, as does the full size 1911, and the full size .357. Being on a farm, I constantly jump in/around equipment, lay on the ground, etc. Need something much lower profile.

Going to take a look at the Taurus mentioned above. Right in my price point I want to spend, good enough for when I would need to deep concealed instead of a full size OWB.

I usually would never recommend this. However, if you're going to carry a lot and shoot very little, the DB9.

The early ones had a tendency to break parts, not sure how the later ones have been. Mine hasn't choked since having the RSA replaced, I did make a point of getting several hundred rounds through it after warranty, but it hasn't seen many since.

Anyway, cheap, usable sights, very light, very slim, but still enough to hold onto, not a bad trigger, and accurate enough, not hard to keep shots on a six inch plate @ 25yds. Recoil is not as bad as you'd think 9mm would be in a 11oz gun.

Have you thought about a Makarov?

Cheap surplus gun, good round for small animals and decent for other needs.

AIM Surplus has them or others on GB in your price range with holsters many times.

Vx50's and Vz70's can be found cheap around that price range, and a used Sccy can also be found around what you're looking for too.

One suggestion, try to have in 9x19 or better.
