I know very little about this subject matter so please be kind if this is a stupid question. It is my understanding that people who carry under CCW permits MUST keep the weapon concealed at all times from public view. but, under michigan law, it is also legal to open carry without a permit... Doesn't those two rules contradict each other? I mean, if you have a CCW permit and your gun is showing, doesn't that fall under the open carry law?? I'm considering getting a CCW and am just researching a bit. thanks, |

Please take a good course like NRA's Basics of Personal Protection In The Home. A lot of the law will be explained along with do's and don'ts. My wife and I both took this course and it's a lot more detailed and in depth then a basic CPL class, but also longer (ours was spaced over three days 14 hrs total).
One pet peev. Its a CPL (concealed pistol license). CCW is the charge you will get if caught carrying without one (carrying a concealed weapon without a license). Good luck

| If you are concerned about a charge of "brandishing" if your carry piece happens to show, don't be. Before the MSP Bulletin came out to clarify some of the issues, the then-attorney general issued an opinion that a holstered handgun is not being brandished just be being exposed. There is also no requirement that anyone with a CPL must ensure their pistol is concealed at all times. |
