PPS?
Nano?
CM9?
Sheild?
PF9 w/ upgrades?
PT709?

I need advice and have a $450 budget.  Needs to fit in a pocket.  I have a glock 30s as my primary ccw.

Shield in 9mm is currently working for me.  A little bulky in an Uncle Mike's pocket holster, but works unless you are wearing really tight pants.

lots of taurus haters here but ive had a pt709 for years and its a good little gun for when i cant carry my g19

I liked my wife's PM9 so much that I bought one for myself....then bought a spare

The Shield is just too big for pocket carry imo.

I would go CM9 in your shoes or find a PM9 used for ~$500 like I did.

It's hard to beat a Kahr PM9 or CM9 for an easy to carry slim 9mm.  I carry my Glock 19 as much as possible, but when I need something small, thin, and easy to conceal it's the PM9.  The only thing I don't like about the PM9 is the trigger.  It has no reset so forget about double taps, it shoots more like a revolver.

PPS

If you don't like the mag release, then PM9.

I've owned: pf9, pt709-crap, PPS too big, PM9, and P9. I liked the kahrs the most. Haven't seen a shield yet.

Given the parameters stated, another vote for the Kahr CM9.

I love my Shield, but it's not a pocket gun.

If you want a 9mm, agreed the PM9 or CM9 is the way to go.

Shield, PM9/CM9 or PPS. For a pocket gun the Kahr is probably the best suited. I've had the Kahr and Shield and both were good. The PPS has a good rep, I just didn't like the mag release.

I have had my 290 rs for a few months now.  So far I am very pleased with it, it has ran flawless with everything I have feed it.  I think it is a little bulky for front pocket carry but is doable, most of the time I carry iwb or in cargo pocket of pants.  The paddle holster that comes with it is ok for open carry but rides to low on me to conceal very good. Don't believe all that you hear about them being hard to strip, just you tube it, I can have mine stripped in about 10 sec.

I own 2, originally intended as my BUG but now it's my EDC.
It's true DAO so no need for a manual safety and every shot is deliberate under stress.
Surprisingly accurate for me (YMMV), recoil is very mild w/115's, not bad w/135's and tolerably fast w/147's.
A little heavy for pocket carry but doable, 6rd mag for max concealability and 8rd mag for full 3-finger grip. I can AIWB carry in a Remora all day w/no discomfort (even when bending over).
Factory night sights are good, checkering is aggressive but easily fixed w/a little light sanding or a grip sleeve. W/over 500rds so far through the both of them, the only problems experienced to date are a few light strikes early on (the first had 3 in the first 200rds, none since and the second had 1 in the first 50rds and none since) and FTF's from slidelock if you don't seat the cartridges fully in the mag while loading.
IMHO, the P290RS is a *very* nice EDC pistol but not everyone will warm to the DAO trigger.
Tomac

ETA: Due to the short slide length, the recoil springs are powerful which can make holding the slide back for disassembly tough. I solved that by locking the slide back, positioning my hand to hold the slide (thumb through trigger guard, fingers curled over the top of the slide), releasing the slide then popping the slidelock out as the slide moves slightly forward.

Kahr CM9 all the way.  IMO the Shield is way overrated, too big and heavy for pocket carry, as heavy as a G26 with less capacity.
CM9 can also be a good ankle gun.

Something that will work as equally ell in your pocket of any pants you own or on your belt???

The CM9 is the gun.  The others are too bulky to do both or just not worth your money.

I just bought a pocket 9 and handled all of those plus a P938 Sig

I bought the PM9.

Another vote for the cm9. I own a pm9, lc9, shield, and pf9. Pm9 is the best pocket gun followed by the lc9 IMO.

Of that list, I own a CM-9 and the PF9.  I've shot the rest enough to know that I made good choices on my two pocket 9s.
Also own the Ruger LC-9... trigger is horrible.  Gave it to my dad to use.  He doesn't mind it.

I'd suggest the CM-9 Kahr as being the best on the list... very easy to conceal and so far very, very reliable and accurate.

I've been researching the same for the last few months, renting what I can at my local range (which has a great selection) and researching online as well.

I was leaning toward the CM9 simply for the price difference. But I've settled on a PM9 because I absolutely love that gun and, outside of traditional retail/LGS settings, it's very affordable. I don't treat myself to a lot of new gun purchases, so I'm comfortable spending a little extra for the PM9. Plus it comes with two magazines as opposed to the one the CM9 ships with. Thing shoots as well as my G17 at 15 yards, is very forgiving with recoil (IMHO) and is easy for me to operate with only 2 fingers on the grip (6'5 guy with big hands).

Oddly enough I'd take this over the Shield because the Shield feels cartoonishly thin in my hand.

Kahr. I have the PM9. It's everything my G26 wishes it were (though I do get away with ankle carrying the 26, it is a rare pocket other than a coat pocket that will carry the "little" Glock).

Too big for most pockets IMO (FWIW, I have and love the 26). I'll stand by post of the PM9 (or the newer less expensive CM9) as my pick for a pocket 9mm.

I hate to say it, but you might end up buying two different guns.  In my mind, the options for a true pocket carry pistol limit the weapon's abilities.  My Shield in 9mm conceals better with my attire, which is typically a t-shirt and jeans, better than a pocket pistol that will clearly outline.  So, with your top pocket options, I get a pistol that is easier to spot and less effective in both accuracy, capacity (depending on model) and stopping power (again, depending on caliber and type of gun chosen).  I would rather have the slight discomfort daily with the trade-off being a weapon that I can draw quickly, fire accurately, and packs both the stopping power and capacity necessary for most defensive situations.

In the end, find the balance best for you.  There is no singular "Best CCW" nor way of carrying it.  It all comes down to personal preference but I do caution one more thing.  Make sure you enjoy shooting whichever weapon you end up purchasing.  If you hate firing the weapon, then what are the chances you will continually go to the range and practice as you should?  I've seen people do this time and again and it's irresponsible as a gun owner who intends to use their weapon to defend themselves and those around them.  Don't be afraid to make a change if you're not happy with your purchase.

CM9 owner here.

I can pocket carry it, in relative comfort, depending on type of pants I'm wearing.

My preferred mode of carry is with a Crossbreed Super Tuck.

ETA:  For pocket carry, I generally go with my S&W Bodyguard 380.

^And I guess this is exactly my point.  I have friends buying up 380s because they can pocket carry with no issues.  I don't want to start a caliber or ballistics argument, but even you prefer the CM9 over the 380, but settle on the 380 for pocket carry.  My only point is there is always a compromise unless you buy two weapons.  It seems impossible to have the best of all worlds.

I like the PF9, but a friend bought one and he can't get through a single mag without issues.

I bought a shield recently and it far and away exceeded my expectations, granted I'm not interested in pocket carry.

My compromise is a Sig 938. I shoot well enough with it, and mainly carry it 4 o'clock for easy draw, but can also carry it in the front pocket. I practice drawing from both, certainly faster drawing from 4, but it's not too bad drawing from front pocket. I used to carry a glock 19 or 26, but now the sig has become my EDC. I usually toss a spare 7 round mag in my other pocket and i'm gtg.

PM9 or CM9 in a Recluse pocket holster.  Holster makes a huge difference.  Get the square one as it prints like a wallet or Phablet.  This is a great option for a non-permissive environment in cargo shorts or cargo pants.  Note that to do this well in a NPE, you usually have to extend/deepen the pocket so that the pistol/holster will be deep enough that it will not be visible from any angle.  Very comfortable while sitting or driving.

Shield is too heavy and tall for pocket carry, G26 is just ridiculous for pocket carry.  For me, even with a Recluse and a custom pocket, the PM9 @ 19.5oz loaded is the absolute heaviest I can go pocket carry in a NPE and be comfortable and not show signs of something weirdly heavy in my pocket!

...or even more.  I've now got 3 in the rotation depending on what i'm wearing and where I'm going.  Not ideal since it's hard to train well for 3 different guns that sit slightly different.  The general motions are the same, but there's subtle differences that crop up and need to be worked around.  The alternative though is leaving the house without one, or with one that's a poor choice sometimes.
