I work in land surveying and most days I am wearing a tool belt to carry all of the stuff I have to have for work. This of course makes it difficult to carry iwb or owb for that matter and still be able to get to my gun if i need it. Any suggestions? I have considered a shoulder rig but thats a whole other ball of wax.

Ankle carry with a smaller gun. S&W 642 would be a good choice.

I have suspenders on my tool belt and I appendix carry.

The only draw difference is a stout tug on the shirt is required to clear the belt and expose my M&P 9c.

With certain cargo shorts I pocket carry the 9c in an uncle mikes size 3. This isn't as fast of a draw when the tool bel is in place, but there are 13 rounds of 9m Ranger T's at the ready instead of 5 from my J-frame in the ankle or pocket.

Your dilemma is not unlike a cops who wears a duty belt. You could pocket carry the j frame which would be cheaper, or buy a ankle holster, but they don't work we'll with boots unless you buy an extender.

I don't care for ankle holsters.  Try and get to it in a hurry.  Something smaller in pocket carry would be my choice or something like a Smartcarry rig if that would still work with a tool belt.  In rare situations where regular IWB doesn't work for me it's pocket carry of a smaller firearm.  Better to have something than nothing at all.

small rip open pouch attached to tool belt, I'm guessing blackhawk or maxpedition.  Seems it would be pretty inconspicuous on a tool belt. Should be one to hold up to a service sized weapon of choice....
