So there will always be threads with polls about what caliber do you prefer to carry. My question is what configuration is your caliber? FMJ, JHP, HP, Soft Point, other?

I would say the very vast majority of people are carrying a quality JHP round. Gold Dot, Winchester Ranger, Federal HST, Remington Golden Saber, etc, etc.

I prefer a bonded hollow point ammunition in whatever I am carrying. From the testing I have seen, a bonded bullet tends to expand like it should and stays together.

For the most part I carry Gold Dots in my two carry guns, 124+P in my Glock 19 and 230gr in my 1911
That said, I am carrying Federal Premium in my 1911 right now.

I always prefer hollow point ammo but I do stash a couple mags with FMJ in my vehicle as a last resort if all other mags are gone....or if I should find myself in an area where I can do some plinking which doesn't happen very often.

Gold Dots in my revolvers and Ranger T's in my 1911.  They have proved reliable in my guns, I like how they shoot and I'm impressed with everything that I've read about them.

This.
I run all of them through a gun, and try to find if it likes one best. Then that's its diet.

My preferences:

147gr 9mm Ranger T, Ranger T bonded, Federal HST
230gr 45acp Ranger T, Ranger T bonded, Federal HST

ETA:  To address FMJ's post below: I just looked at a box on the shelf, and it reads "Winchester Ranger 45 Auto, 230 Gr Bonded JHP" (RA45B).  So I retract my "Ranger T Bonded" and insert "Ranger Bonded JHP" for one of my choices of 45 goodness.

Quality bonded JHPs off the tacked list, except in .380 , where I recommend FMJ and carry HydraShoks due to regulation (from our list of authorized .380 ammo, it is the best in my opinion because of its tendency to not expand.)

Hornady Critical Defense and my new box of Speer Gold Dots in 9mm and 40.

I keep Remington 125gr. +P JHPs in my S&W snub, but am going to upgrade to one of Buffalo Bore's loads as soon as I get over paying over $1 for a round of their ammo. Probably their 158gr. +P lead hollow point, but maybe their 150gr. hard-cast wadcutter. In a .38 special a permanent wound channel is what I desire, and sometimes a jacketed round doesn't overcome the jacket in order to expand reliably.

I keep Winchester 147gr. SXT in my Beretta 92 if/when I ever carry it. It's a big, fat gun, and it's too hot here in middle TN to wear a sport coat most of the time, so it is only carried occasionally. With my Mec/Gar 18-round mags I have 19 rounds at my disposal if I need them, which should be enough......

I will say you need to test any wadcutters or the like before relying on them.  We used to be issued 148 grain wadcutters, and they would not go through the regular glass, not bullet resistant, but regular glass, in the front of a Popeye's Fried Chicken.  The other fellows' 9mm FMJs went through it just fine from the inside, but even with the glass weakened by their fire, our wadcutters did not penetrate.
A friend also scored a head shot with one of them, and it did not penetrate the skull, and the guy got off a shot into my friend.  (Though the friend is comfortably retired, and the guy with the nasty scalp wound is doing 99 years with 83 to go....even with our sentencing schedule, he still has at least 33 to go before he gets free.)

I suggest you read Buffalo Bore's website about their ammo, dude...

These aren't your Daddy's wadcutters, as they are hard-cast and move at a much faster clip than the old target wadcutters.

That's all......

No worries mate, just suggesting you test them yourself, that is all.

Without demeaning Buffalo Bore in the slightest, I tend not to rely too heavily on any company's review of its own products when making purchasing decisions, let alone decisions that may adversely affect my continued ability to do all the things I like doing.  And I am pretty sure, though the memory is foggy at my advanced age, that our armory insisted that our wadcutters were more than sufficient for any need we might have (in point of fact, a certain then-sergeant assured us that he would rather tote a .38 with our ammo in a gunfight than an AK while I was in the academy........he really is a koolaid drinker though, and has never been in a gunfight, so he might well have believed that nonsense.)
