I passed my Texas CHL today with flying colors. 48 of 50 shots made it within the #8 circle with the majority in the #9 and #10 areas. Two stragglers into the #7 ring low and left. Not that this is the best but I am still proud of myself. Scored 92 on written exam. (damn Class A misdemener questions). Just thought I'd share. I will post when I mail my materials and then repost when I get my plastic in the mail to give other members who are planning on taking the Texas CHL class an estimate of the turnaround times for the state to process licenses with a clean record.

Congratulations. Well done.

Wow!  So there are states where it is possible that a 5 year old may not be able to get a carry permit?  Congratulations.  I am glad to see that in at least one state you actually have to show you can shoot.  Here in FL it is a joke to get a permit.  They literally may as well just hand them out to anyone that asks.

Congrats on your CHL in TX and here's to hoping FL can up the difficulty a notch.

Congrats.

And yeah, MO has a similar setup, have to shoot a revolver and an auto, 50 rounds total.  Plus the 8 hour course.  I don't recall taking an actual written test, but it's been 8 years, and I have trouble remembering what I had for breakfast.....

How about just using "Shall not be infringed"  or do you need a nanny state to test you?

How hard is the written test part?  I've been sitting on my butt getting a CHL.

Not hard, 50 questions that are Multiple choice and T/F. Mostly common sense questions. The shooting portion of the class is very structured, load 5 in mag and fire per instructions either 1, 2 or 5 shots on command. Just practice shooting your pistol and you should pass. Some of the people in my class seemed like they purchased a pistol and put it in the case and left it until the day of the class.

It took 3 weeks to the day from the time I turned in my paperwork and fingerprints for mine to arrive.

Here in the great state of Alabama all you do is walk in to your county's Sheriff's office fill out a form they do a quick background check and if it is clear they take your photo, $20, and print out the hard plastic copy right there and hand it to you.  From that year foward all you do is walk in hand them the expired one they recheck you, you pay $20, and they give you the choice of retaking the photo, and just print you another one and out the door you go.

Won't be long now. Website says that FBI background check is complete and my license is being printed. Maybe one more week and I will have my plastic.

In MN they require you hit a sheet of paper at 21 feet 18 times with 18 bullets, if you don't they are supposed to make you start over or at least this is the way my instructor did it.

Mailed all paper work on April 9 and received it in the mail today May 23. 45 days from my mailbox to my mailbox. Not too bad of a wait. Now my family and I can feel more protected in public. Like they say "response time for the police is just a few minutes when you only have a few seconds".
