What type do you guys use? Open or closed? For those of you that use open do the mags fit tight enough where if you held the pouch upside down the mags wouldn't fall out?  Thanks guys

I have used all kinds. I used a leather knife holder, a leather man style. I used a leather mag pouch for about 10 min. Now I flip between a CompTac pag pouch and a Raven one. both are open at the top and made of kydex. the CompTac has retention adjustment, the Raven has a dimple molded into it. The Raven fits snugly to the body, the CompTac is easily taken on and off.  I  wear the Raven more.

+1 on the comp-tac.  My work situation requires an easy on/off and the comp-tac fits that requirement very nicely.

A cheap option is the fobus mag carrier, and I used one for a while, but it rides lower than the comp-tac and will peek out the bottom of your shirt easier/sooner than the comp-tac would if your shirt rides up during activity.

This is what I use and it has served me well for several years.

Open kydex usually.  Either single or single mag in front and light in the rear.  Yes, I adjust it so the mag will not fall out if held upside down.

I use a Blackhawk kydex single stack.  I slide the belt clip off and shove it in the little pocket most blue jeans come with above/in the right pocket

I use a nylon multi-tool case with a Velcro closure for each of my carry pistols and carry them horizontally.

They work well for me and since they don't scream "gun" I can carry them exposed when I'm wearing a tucked shirt and nobody has ever given them a second look.

Most of you are using kydex pouches. Do they offer anything over nylon pouches? Thanks guys

i've been using the ons from skdtac (and they are an ARFCOM site supporter).  the retention on the mags is pretty light, but i think is assisted by the friction against your side - but thus far i haven't had any problems w/ them coming out unintentionally.  they do allow for super fast retrieval.

ya, its faster to get a mag out of a kydex holder. you can also put a mag back in a kydex holder with one hand during a tac reload. the kydex is gona stay in its place better too, which will help with muscle memory and speed of getting the mag out. where a nylon one will give a little simply due to the fabric.

I have a Fobus paddle style, open top, single mag pouch. It's made of kydex and fits snugly enough that a mag won't come out even if you hold it upside down and shake a bit. It goes on and off easily but stays on because of hooks that push out below your belt.

Anyone have reccomendations for an IWB mag carrier?  The belt-mounted ones print badly for me.

i think comp-tac makes one..  but, a lot of people favor OWB because IWB is so uncomfortable for mag pouches...    i'm fairly average build, and have no problem concealing my OWB mag carriers.  i'd also recommend kydex for slimmer fit..

I use a Fobus for 9mm and a Kytex for .45, both work great for me

FOBUS is made of plastic, not kydex, just to nitpick. i have a bianchi single mag pouch made of leather (IWB) and a fobus plastic double mag pouch (OWB) both are fine. but if I could do it over again I'd buy all comptact stuff (like my iwb/owb holsters and belt) and just be done with it.

Another comptac mag holder user here.

The reasons I like the comptac is it rides high on my belt, and it has a very sturdy and simple design.
