First time the screw fell out of the handguard and replaced it with a SS screw and it sheared off. Put safety wire on it and a washer in front to hold in place. It worked but wanted to try the MI for the mini

Decided to roll with the OD Green MI Rail. Ran around 100 rds through and seems nice, the grip is more secure.

Its OK to jack this thread seems dead anyways.

Bought the FAL pistol, it is made by DSA

At first it would one fire one rd and jam and for the price wasn't very happy. However once it got broke in, (they say they need to be broken in), it runs 100%

I notice the angled handguard on your Mini. Is that actually legal, or do you have an SBR stamp?

I don't recall the exact wording of the law, but in affect it reads "any foreward hand grip at an angle to the barrel" is prohibited. If that is indeed legal, I need to look at putting a rail on my Draco and adding one of those!

Looks great! Do you have any straight on profile pictures of the MD with the rail and AFG? Any plans to convert to an SBR?

Question 7

Keep in mind a few facts about ATF Tech Branch determination letters:

1. Tech Branch letters are only "good" for the individual to whom they were written. They can't be taken as a blanket statement of policy for every American gun owner.

2. Tech Branch letters are only applicable to the exact firearm and circumstances outlined in the original question posed.

3. Tech Branch letters are only "good until they aren't anymore". They are not an affirmative defense against prosecution. The ATF can (and does) change their mind at any time.

What the Tech Branch letter does mean, is that if someone were to write the Tech Branch a letter asking the same questions about a Draco or other AK pistol and a Magpul AFG, is that they would probably get the same answer... for now.  (Also note, the letter provides no legal or technical reasoning as to why they feel the AFG does not constitute a second grip or create AOW status. They merely say "Yes.")

So in my mind, the only answer to the question of the legality and non NFA status of an AFG on a Draco is "probably".

And it's up to everyone individually to decide how secure they feel with "probably" as their answer when it comes to dealing with potential federal prosecution.

It would be better for everyone who really desires a Draco with an AFG to just write the Tech Branch themselves. The decision letter should probably be enough to protect you, and you'll only be told to remove the AFG if the ATF changes their minds, or one day issues an opposing opinion.

Excellent answer and valuable info, and thank you for the link to the ATF letter.
