I picked up my second Draco yetserday. It was a gift from a very good friend - so the price was right!  He hand selected it from a large batch, made sure there was no cant, and test fired it before I picked it up, so I know there are no issues. It is a Draco C. My first Draco was not, so now I have 1 of each. At first when I heard about the Draco C, I assumed I wanted to avoid it, but after reading up (particularly posts by Gary) I decided to give it a try for variety's sake. I am going to Form 1/SBR this one. I have decided to try and make one like Gardiner did. See "My DRACO w/ACE-CTR Stock" thread.

The gun did not have a cleaning rod. My first one does. I do not really clean my AK's with the cleaning provided, but I like to have them for looks and in case I need to clear stuck brass from the chamber at the range etc. I called Century and the very nice gentleman confirmed that the C models are now coming in without cleaning rods and that they do not have any extras. My friend gave me a standard size rod. When I got home, I cut the standard rod down to the same size as my other Draco's rod and it fits perfectly. It has plenty of tension and does not move, so it should stay in place when I fire it, like the one on my other Draco does. I smoothed off the cut end of the rod with a dremmel so it will do damage the barrel if I use it, and I blackened the cut end with Formula 44/40. I was thinking about threading the end of the rod, but remebered that the threads do not screw into anything and are useless. The only thing missing is the slot for the cleaning patch, but I have plenty of after market and other stock rods at home for that.

My first Draco had newer more blonde wood on it, which I refinished. The C model has a very nice red-ish bakelite hand grip and the older, heavily sanded WASR-type wood top and bottom handguards. I actually like the older WASR wood better because it shows more grain. I used a set of this wood to refinish and swapped it out on my first Draco a few months ago. See "Draco Wood DIY Project" thread I posted previously. I am going to refinish the wood and clean the entire gun up this weekend. I will also cut the weld off the muzzle nut tonight.

The last picture shows both of them together. The bottom one looks much larger than the C due to the angle of the camera, but it really is not. I did notice that the C has a slightly shorter barrel than the non-C model, but barely. I will update this or start a new thread once I get further along with this project.

Me like.  What is the 'C' model?  I don't remember if mine is the C model or not.  I'll check when I get home from work.

The C model is what Century is bringing in and selling now. I understand that Cs are converted from military guns into the pistol config. The earlier non-C Dracos were built as such. The person who seems to have the most info is GARY N4KVE- so perhaps he can confirm if I am correct. As in the picture, they clearly say Draco C on the left hand side of the receiver and the serial number starts with a year - mine 1968.

I cut the weld of the muzzle nut with a dremmel last night.  I just took  the wood off and  am applying citri stripper. Be very careful with stripper. It will burn your skin and really mess up your eyes. Tonight I will stain the wood.

I have finished the wood for my new Draco C. I used a combo of special oak and sedona red minwax stain on Sunday.  I applied the second (last coat) of tru-oil yesterday when I got home from work and let it dry over night. Pics taken this morning. I will install the handguards when I get home tonight and add a pic or 2.

That does look good.  Thanks for confirming the guide rod is MIA intentionally on the "C"ool model.  Thought I got shorted.  Fortunately, I have a spare so I'll be wacking that to fit.
