I didn't know Turkey used Dragunovs.  But theres something about a Dragunov, MG3, MP5 and G3 in a beach landing that makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside.

Guy on the right definately.  He takes martial arts, and has been in the USMC for years.  This is not to say that the African dude isn't tough.  I wouldn't want to mess with any of 'em.

Is that RAT???

I think his name is Rock or something.  Now, I do not know him.  He posted these pics on a military forum, so I assume it was ok to post them here.. I don't want anyone to get in trouble of course.

Romanian

Funny because most of the ones I saw where 47's not 74's as in most of the pictures in this thread.

So they've phased out the AK74 and are issuing GM 94s as General issue to troops huh?

And apparently switched back to the AKM and the venerable 7.62x39.

only as a personal choice among Russian Spec. Forces, so I've heard.

The 5.45x39 is still standard, and they're making their newest AK-105 in 5.45x39, I just read that the Spec. Forces in chechnya can choose whether to take an AKM or a 74, some choose the AKM from their personal experience with the 5.45x39 (or so they said).

Exactly what MauserMark said. Russia never completely put away the AKM. During Afghan - Soviet War. They still had AKM's among their Spetsnaz units. They had suppressors used on the AKM's also.

During the war in Chechnya now, Spetsnaz units are still putting the AKM and 7.62x39 to use. More so because of the urban and forested environments they're fighting in.
So the AKM offers more peneration compared to 5.45mm.

They even developed other 5.45mm loads to use after they went in Chechnya. Besides the 7n6, they have 7n10, which is enhanced peneration and the 7n22, which is armor piercing 5.45mm.

Great to see the venerable AKM still in use by the Russians.   Anyone have any more pictures of AKM's in use in Chechnya?

A unique recoil reduction system comprised of two opposing gas pistons. When the gas from the expended round passes through the gas tube, some of it drives a piston backward, cycling the bolt and functioning the rifle, while the rest of the gas drives another piston forward to counter the recoil.

"Yemen - A tribesleader in the market of his village. The story is this. I noticed this man walking in the market, I stopped him and I asked him to pose for me: he was a real tribesman, the most important man of the village and he was very proud to pose with his kalashnikov and his jambiya (the typical curve dagger which is carried by all the men in Yemen)."

I can never figure out the advantage of carrying the rifle with the folder half way down?

Easy to hold when firing when folded and easily deployed to full extention in high stress situations...

I've seen a lot of AKMs with just the nut screwed on the muzzle, did a lot or did the originals not have the slant brakes?
