My issue carbine is a micro-galil.  I really like the little gun despite some of it's faults however I, along with other guys, am having reliability issues.  The most common is a sort of bolt over base where the cartridge is about 1/2 way out of the mag and bent at about 30 degrees where the bolt strikes the case body...this happens during full, semi, and even racking the bolt on a loaded mag.  I'm guessing our mag springs are possibly worn out allowing the bolt to out run the mag?  Does anybody know of a source for replacement magazine springs or if I am diagnosing this problem incorrectly?

Thanks
FFK

I would imagine that any 5.56 AK type mag spring would work and maybe even the springs out of a 5.45 AK-74 mag as well. Another option is to buy the AR mag adapter and use those mags instead.

I just received an adaptor from ORF on Friday.  Seems ok, just not sure how the exposed mag release on the left side is going to work bouncing off of my armor.  Also, I bought mine out of pocket, don't know if my department will buy them for everybody.  I think the Galil mag is definitely a better mouse trap than the AR mag and I like the 35 rounds.  The 74 idea may work, I'll take apart one of mine and compare it.

I think you're diagnosis has validity, but I have one other suggestion.

Take appart the mags and carb clean the interior of the bodies and scrub them good.  Every Galil mag I ever owned had a thin layer of sticky protective grease on the interior, and as they become dirtier, the followers can get sluggish.
