| I am thinking of converting my Arsenal SAM-7S to a Valmet or galil gas tube and was wondering aside from using a Galil gas piston, gas tube and milling the receiver for the gas tube is there any other parts I'd need and anything else I need to take in to consideration. I'm not sure if I can even use the 5.56 parts from a Galil so I'd prefer to go with a Valmet gas tube as it would be an easier conversion. If any one knows of a Valmet parts source could you please let me know. I also have some parts I could trade Including an un-thread/un-used Krebs AK-74 style muzzle brake and adapter in 7.62x39 if some one has a Valmet gas tube they could part with, thanks for the help. |

You'll need a galil gas block, front site, and topcover, because when you mill the receiver for the Galil gas tube you will be removing the rear site. Sarco has some Valmet parts www.sarcoinc.com/valmet.html |

I'm assuming you just want the look, that the parts don't have to be valmet? If so here is my recommendation. Buy a Galil front site base, Galil front site, Galil gas tube, Galil gas piston, Galil AR handguard, and Galil topcover. You can get these from different places (I'll put links below). I suggest Galil parts since they are easier and cheaper to find. Oh yeah galil and R4 parts are interchangeable. Galil parts: valmet-weapons.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=377 www.sarcoinc.com/galil.html www.sturmgewehr.com/webBBS/parts.cgi?read=101072 The buttstock on the Valmet in your link will be very hard to find, might want to keep the original or get an ACE skeleton stock. Next find a gunsmith. I know Krebs used to turn Bulgies into Galil clones so he might be a good start. I'm gathering parts for a similar project, but I'm trying to make a SAKO M92.

Thanks Ugh, and to let ya know I'm actually going fo a SAKO M92 myself. I just mentioned the valmet gas tube since I thought it would be easier than using Galil parts, I'm not going for the Valmet look though. Since we are doing the same project what would you recomend for parts and where could I find them. I'm going to keep the original stock so I'll just need gas tube and all related parts. As far as the front and rear sight if I can I am going to use a Krebs AR-15 rear sight and the front sight/gas block combo on the Krebs M3 rifle, 9th rifle down. http://www.krebscustom.com/KalashnikovRifles.html I'll have to know the diamiter of the gas tube that way I can have the front sight made to fit. this is also assuming that I can also use the original dust cover for the rear sight, if not let me know since I'm not sure that it will lock up with the gas tube/other parts correctly. any info you can give me on the Sako hanguards gas tube, gas piston if I need one and any other parts/source would be greatly appreciated. Sorry about the confusion but when I started thinking about this project I thought that I'd have to mix and match parts from different rifles to build a Sako M92ish rifle, thanks again for your help. |

My dream would be that after the ban someone domestically made an M92 Look at this |

Contact Vulcan Imports or Jim Rawles for Valmet parts, they hang out at the Valmet site below. valmet-weapons.com/forums/ One problem with using your original topvcover for the sight. Not sure how stable it will be, so the sight may not retain zero. If you look at a Galil or Valmet topcover there is a reinforcement around the rear of the topcover. What Krebs does for his KTR's is there is a take down screw in the recoil spring assembly that is used to keep everything tight. Good luck. Make sure to post pics. |
Did you notice though that its a short 7.62 RPK reciever with a Galil front sight assembly? |
| Yeah I did, and the muzzle brake is really cool/unique looking to , simular to the micro Galil. Makes me want to buy an Arsenal SAM-5 and convert it to a SBR. And thanks again Ugh, you've been a great help. I'll be waiting till September after the AWB sunsets (if it dose)to start the work, but I will post pics as soon as it's done. |
| The Galil top cover &Vepr covers with the A2 KTR-03v type rear sight from Krebs are slightly different from each other. Some dremel work may be required. One may work better than the other for your application. The height of the sights is also different. The Galil sights are taller than the Krebs by about an 1/8". If you need specs. post again,as I own both rifles. |
