So, finally planning to take the SBR plunge, and I want to do it in style by building a Galil Micro. I've been doing some research on this, and it seems like I have a lot of confusing, so-so options. The best option I've come up with is the Blackthorne kit (ick) with an ORF receiver, and then having one of the usual suspects (Inrange?) do the build. Is there a better path, or is that basically it? (I hear that CNCWarrior is going to build micro receivers at some point, so I'd use that instead of ORF if the timing works.)
Related: I would need to fill out the SBR paperwork on the receiver before I send it out for the build, right? |
| Look at Black Market Arms he has a couple of Centrury Receivers for sale for the Galil 223... the receiver is the same on a SAR or a ARM or AR so don't let that stop you....I think it has the trigger guard and also the feed ramp installed its a good buy for a good start.... I built one of his but I got lucky and had the barrel installed... |

Comments on your original post...
The Micro receiver is different then the AR/ARM/SAR receiver with its rounded underside on front end. The real Micro receiver also has the integrated hinge block for the folder stock. The parts kit you get will dictate the exact version of receiver so speak to the builder you have chosen before getting the receiver. There are some "true" Micro receivers for sale and they also have the Micro style receiver that works with all the Micro parts except it uses the standard folder stock. Yes, you will need to have the approved F1 SBR paperwork in hand prior to the build, again coordinate with your builder of choice. Good luck |

Op here. I wound up going with a Galil SAR build instead. The numbers just didn't work for doing a Micro build, and I didn't want to half-ass whatever build I did wind up doing.
I have all the parts sans receiver (waiting on CNCWarrior for that)... after that comes in, it's just a few months of tax stamp wait and build time. :) |
