| I am sure it has been asked before, but I can not search the archives and if you point me in the right direction I appreciate it. I am new to Galils but not to the ARs and the AKs. have three high quality ARs in 5.56 and three quality AKs in 7.62. Besides it is another toy, tell me why I should buy a Galil. Thanks. |

If you want someting in 5.56mm, like the reliability of an AK action but want something a little more refined, aGalil is a fine option. Galils are a milled receiver rifle that is based on the AK action. But they have better sights and a safety that can be used by ones thumb. They have a very robust, ready feel to them. I have an ORF built Galil and have been very pleased with it. http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj106/Smittyd5r/Gun%20Stuff/ORFGalilAR1.jpg http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj106/Smittyd5r/Gun%20Stuff/ORFGalilARFG1.jpg |

"Besides it is another toy, tell me why I should buy a Galil" Because they look good (nothing looks better hanging on a sling over your shoulder than a Galil with the side folding stock folded!). Also because they are expensive (especially the IMI guns), so not everyone can have one. It's the old "we want want we can't have". I have a IMI model 372 ARM. It looks great but it is a heavy gun for the .556 caliber. I've never had a FTF or FTE and is as accurate as any of my .556 rifles (several ARs, Daewoo K2, and M17S). PS: Out of the lot I feel the Daewoo is best (unfortunately there are not a lot of spare parts available for it). They are all toys and fun to enjoy. |

Galil: --More accurate with iron sight because of longer sight between front and rear. ---Safety is located conveniently on the left like AR. ---Very smooth trigger pull as factory gun (for mine, at least)...even better than Legend AK (for mine, at least). ---Adaptor to use AR mags. (.223 caliber). ---Aesthetically better looking AK than their cousins. ![]() |
GM Galil barrels are 1 in 9" as per ORF. |
| My IMI is 1 in 12 and I couldn't be happier. I do not shoot long range (max I have available is 150 yards) and my Galil with M193 does wonderful. How many here shoot more than 150 yards? I think too many get hung up on needing heavier bullets when in reality they both punch out a .556 hole in the target. I do not see how a 62g (or heavier) could be more accurate than the 55g I am using. |
If it was imported by Springfield Armory it had the 1-7 twist. The 392S, 397S, and 710S imported by Action Arms had the 1-7, the rest of the Action Arms imports had the 1-12. The Magnum research imports had the 1-12. This data is copied from Yog's information |
I got my m16 magazine adaptor from ORF, although I think they are sold out right now. Orlite Galil mags work great in my Galil. In fact, that is what is in the first pic I posted of my Galil. |

People are posting that the safety and site radius are 2 big reasons to get a Galil. I like the Galil alot but there is another option for you...look at Krebs Custom Rifles...they customise AKs. I have one of their built Vepers in 7.62x39...it has an extended site radius that uses AR sites and also a Galil thumb safety. Just a thought. |
