I was wondering if anyone makes Yugo hand guards with a stainless steel heat shield.  Fun gun to shoot, but after 300 rounds you can't so much as hold it without an oven mit.  Thanks for all the help guys, this forum is awesome.

I had the same problem.  I wonder if this would work?

heat shield

UPDATE:   I called Kvar and was advised that the heat sheild is not made for the wood lower hand guard.

Here's where I'm going to buy some wood hand guards for my underfolder.

$70 bux is kinda steep for those handguards. I only paid $429 for the gun! Wish there were a cheaper alternative.

Here's my .02 cent solution:

Actually, I just now whipped that up, out of a piece of tin. Haven't made a top one yet.

Y'all think it'll work?

Looks good dixiedawg.
You might want to try painting them with a ceramic header paint especially on the side touching the wood.
Let us know how they work out.

RRA, those Ironwood stocks really cost $70 for a set?  Damn, I have sold "real" new sets for $60, I ain't charging enough I guess.  And I am OUT right now and have no idea when I may get any more if ever.

DD, that does look like it may just work.  I have done a similar thing to FAL metal HG's but wiht tthose the inserts only "delayed" the heat as the HG's bolted to the gas block and eventually they got so hot you could not hold them.

A story: A buddy of mine and myself got a FAL at the same time.  We were out shooting at the creek one day and he let off a 20 round magazine as fast as he could fire it.  He sat the rifle down on it's bipod to cool while he went and got another magazine.  When he came back I was watching as he bent over and grabbed the rifle by the handguards as I yelled out "DON'T" too late.  It actually burned in an imprint of the side of that handguard into his hand.  The inside of his hand wore that brand for quite some time.  It puzzles me how a battle rifle could possibly be designed with metal handguards.  Obviously the designer never actually ran a few mags through his own design.  I put a set of DSA synthetic stocks on mine and never looked back.  He ended up with one of those DSA quad rails on his.  Glad I ain't got to pack that 15-17 # rifle of his around!
