Anyone have a technique they use to remove the locking pin on the rear trunion without destroying it.

So backing it out  with those punched spots won't mess up the threads?

Mine came out fine, then I thread locked it when I put it back together.

Just muscle it past the staking, it should come right out.  Hold the other side with vice grips then polish the grip marks out once you have it apart.

Make your special screwdriver from a blade insert tip like you would put in a magnetic screw gun driver. The tips are only a few cents each and cut very nicely with a dremel tool and cut off wheel. This way you don't bung up a good screw driver.

You can use lock tite when you reinstall it, or do like i did and just re-stake it with a sharp punch. It looks more "genuine" that way to me.
