Well, I have always wanted a side folder for my WASR but unfortunately couldn't find one of under $100 (seemed more like $125-150). Here in MI, folding rifles are considered to be pistols (obviously not federally, just a state law) but a recent change in the law will have that ending by the end of the year (grandfathered in if registered before years end), so it was time to step up and get a folder of some sort. I managed to find someone who wanted a fixed stock and who had a yugo underfolder to trade, so we traded straight for the two rifles.
Am I correct in thinking this was a good deal? It's got the wood handguards, not plastic, and seems to be straight. It's a bit dirty but overall seems to be in very good condition. Slight amount of play in the underfolder, but I'm guessing that it would be that way no matter what right? Anyway to tighten it a bit? I really think the gun is cool, but I'm going to have to get a new ultimak rail and sling, extra expenses though I *think* the overall increase in value compared to my wasr means I'm still ahead even if I spend a few bucks. |

Right now, you need to spend money on stocking up on ammo and magazines. You should have a minimum of 15 - 20 reliable 30-round magazines and 1K - 2K rounds of ammo put back for a "rainy day". With the political climate these days, it may be closer than you think. |

Damn good trade, for sure. Just know that teh Yugo doesn't have a chromed barrel, so remember that when it comes to things like cleaning. Or more importantly, shooting, then not cleaning for a while afterwards. It will corrode or rust much, much quicker than a chromed barrel would.
Not an issue though if you clean soon after shooting, just an FYI for you. If it's an M70AB2 then it's got the heavy duty (thicker) receiver too. This is easy to spot by the "bulged" RPK style front trunnion too. Great AK, love mine. I agree with the other post saying buy ammo/mags right now. I'd be doing that very thing if I were you... I am myself. Stacking it long, wide, and deep... |
| In all honesty, the WASR I had shot great. It was plenty quick and accurate, especially with the ultimak and primary arms microdot, and carried great with the spec ops sling I had. I felt like I was trading down slightly in terms of practical shooting, however I'm really liking the UF when I hold it like I were shooting a FA mp5. Tuck it in and twist those arms down.... Really gets a solid sticking point and when I eventually get an ultimak for it, it'll be even better. I am going to stay on the look out for more ammo and mags, I'm pretty lacking there right now. Are there any mags to avoid for yugo's? I know they have some distinctions from other AK type rifles, just wasn't sure about magazines. Speaking of non chrome lined... I took this thing apart to clean it and it was NASTY. Good thing I did. |
