Did some searching around with little luck. Did find more Intel on the gun itself.
I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on one from j&g sales. Called them up and quizzed them
about the gun It's self and was told it was built on the zastava receiver. I guess my ultimate question
is are these things worth a shit.

So not hot links for non team members?

You should be able to hot link.

Century M76s are very hit or miss.  You could get a good one or a total lemon.  It's a roll of the dice with them.

I have never seen a Century M76 with a Zastava receiver.  They have always been built on US receivers.  Either it's something new or J&G is full of shit.

Odd on the hot link.. may be a phone thing

Well would not be the first time j&g was full of shit from things I've read.
If I get a lemon, how bad are the fixes? Can a garage gunsmith fix them or would
I have to fight with the dealer to replace/fix? I'm really digging being able to lib 8mm
in semi auto! Any other options out there in this realm with less issues?

The reported problems I have seen are all over the map.  Failure to feed, bent barrel, short-stroking, you just never know.  Could be a very minor problem, could be a show stopper.

Then again, it could run just fine right out of the box.  It's the curse of the Century M76s.

AWO also builds M76s in 8mm and .308.  They had some early problems but eventually got their act together and started producing some nice rifles.  I haven't seen any recent reviews on them.

For the record, I have one of those Century M76s that ran fine from day one.  It is a very solid rifle with good accuracy and I am quite happy with it.  I'm still not willing to recommend them because of the numerous problems others have had with them.

I shot my m76 for the 1st time yesterday.
It's a century bulid on an ORF receiver.

I had a few feeding issues, but those were magazine related.
It was short stroking, but a quick adjustment of the gas port fixed this.

I shot two types of ammo. 50's yugo surplus, and 70's romanian
The yugo wanted to stick in the chamber.
The romanian fed and fired well.

I like the scope it comes with. It was a lot easier to use than the scope on my psl.

The '50s Yugo is well known for being problematic in M76s.  Most people avoid it.

50s Yugo also has brittle brass IIRC

Ruptured cases, blown primers, bolt erosion.  Plenty of fun to be had with '50s Yugo.

My dad bought a M76 in 8MM Mauser from AWO just recently.  We got to put rounds down range today.  The gun is really fun to shoot, but it has a few issues we're going to address with them Monday.

1.  It came with 4 magazines.  Loaded, a couple pop right in, while the others you damn near have to beat in with a rubber mallet.  Pulling the chamber open alleviates this, but it's not functioning correctly, in our opinion.

2.  The trigger, to me, is too darn soft, and the pull is too long.  I could deal with the long pull, but the soft pull, which can't be much more than 2lbs is way too soft.  As a comparison, if any of you have an AR-15, the trigger on this M76 feels like an AR-15 that isn't cocked...but the M76 IS cocked.

3.  I think the rifle may be trying to double.  Either that, or the trigger is so soft that I'm accidentally doubling it.  We had no less, out of 80 rounds today, then a dozen that failed to fire, and had visible light primer strikes on them.  Now, what's really weird (which leads me to believe it's doubling) is that I'd fire a round, then it would act like the hammer wasn't cocked.  Eject the shell and there's a light primer strike.  It's almost like the trigger isn't being caught by the disconnector, and the hammer is following the bolt forward, giving a light strike.

4.  I think the scope needs to be shimmed.  With it on 0, horizontally, it's dead nuts on the bullseye.  Shooting at only 50 yards, we can't get the scope adjusted for vertical without going to the left of the scope marks (the vertical adjustment on the scope starts at zero and moves up numerically as you turn it clockwise).

Those are our initial impressions.  Otherwise, the gun is very ergonomic, and has enough weight to it that it's not twitchy in the scope.  The scope is also impressively clear.

YMMV

Here's a few photos:

Don't bring it up here. Take it up with them! Main reason I say that is 1. I'm having them build me one right now and 2. They built it, have them troubleshoot it.. then report back..

Wasn't trying to air dirty laundry.  They seem to be a pretty stand up company, and I'm sure it'll get resolved quickly.  Just need to give them a call Monday.  Otherwise, we like the gun.  The fit and finish work is top notch.

Absolutely.bring it up here.  Isn't that mainly the point of these forums?  To share issues and achievements for us all to learn from, be aware and/or help out.

Oh boy.  I've got my own little M76 story.   I need to update.  Built by Time Foreman of Gewehr Werks.  Eventually left me holding the bag with long head-space and wouldn't correct.  I eventually sent the rifle to Mario at Piece Of History  Firearms and now it purrrrs SAFELY today.

He could have simply fixed the issue by sending me a $5.00 disconnector.  Instead, he chose to be a jerk about it, and now the story is public.  Hope he feels this was the right course of action.  I know I feel better.

You should probably go ahead and join over there.  Some good good M76 competence/owners over there as well.

The morons over at AWO that built it.  I said the same thing to my dad (the owner).  Why someone would lean a painted finish against brickwork is beyond me.
