Does anyone have any tips on how to remove the grenade sight? I made a tool by cutting a notch out of a screwdriver, but the nut and bolt were struck with a punch at the factory to make it difficult to loosen. I just can't get enough torque to break it loose. So can anybody help me out?

are you trying to remove it to use a rail system over the gas tube??? Or do you just not like the grenade sight??

No, I love the grenade sight, but my m70 kit is filthy and all kinds of cosmoline and junk is seeping out from underneath it. So, I want to get everything clen, then reinstall the sight. I can't cut the nut since I'm going to reuse everything

Your query made me go take a look at mine just to see.
I have a Century build and from what I can see, one might be able to take it off with the right tool if not for the fact that the head of the nut or whatever it is has been punched twice which I believe would make it nearly impossible to remove.
If you look at it and you see two circular indentations, then my guess is that it won't come off without damaging it.

Just go buy a can of GunScrubber at Wal-Mart.

+1 for the brake cleaner, but use the non-chlorinated version to be safe.
