I have a M70AB2. If I want to remove the gas tube, I have to use pliers to pivot the lever & have to pry the tube off with a screwdriver. This is the first Yugo I've been around, is that normal, or do I need to grind some excess off of the front of the tube?

My B2 is exactly the same way. I'm thinking of taking some off the end of the gas tube to fit better. I have 2 underfolders and neither one of them has this problem. I even tried the gas tubes from the underfolders on the fixed stock gun to see if they would fit and they don't either.

It's nice to know I'm not alone.

I'm still debating about trimming some off. I guess I want to know if the Yugo AKs were origionally that way or if (gee it couldn't be ) Century Arms screwed up.

Touch it with a steel wire wheel first.  If that fixes it, Good for you.  If not lightly tap it on the stone cutoff wheel.  It will make it fit.

Yeah, I just wanted to make shure I wouldn't be screwing something up by doing that.

I've two of the underfolders. First one, no problem. One I just bought, way too tight. Problem seems to be the very tight fit of the bottom lug fitting into the cut out. I used  an oxide and touched up with a stone on the bottom and the top lug of the gas tube.

Helped some, still needed to tap the tube good with a plastic faced hammer to be able to swing the lever back down. So how often does the gas tube need to be cleaned :)

I suppose at the price point, this sort of thing is just part of the game. Do your safety levers work with the stock folded?

No, if I want to move the safety selector, I have to push the stock to the right to clear it. Oh well .................................................

I have that problem even with the correct lever. My other underfolder has a standard (one tab) lever. Guess I need to file on one and replace the lever on the other (or file half of the tab off).

One thing, they did a nice job reinforcing the cut out in the stock where they attempt to clear the safety tab.

Truth be told, I'm guessing a safety doesn't get used much on an AK, especially the semi-autos. It's either an empty chamber or ready to go, though, I suppose it does keep some dust out (not like that hurts anything).

Our Iraqi security guards always kept theirs on full auto with a round chambered. My first day at one project site, that morning before I got there in the PSD run (what I ride that was going from Baghdad to Numaneyah! via Hillah), an Iraqi guard stumbled getting out of the back of a pick-up. As he went down he emptied his mag and shot three people. None too seriously. Though, I've got to think an AK round in the leg would make for a bad day

Ouch!

He didn't keep his trigger finger indexed did he?

Anyway, my Yugo has the correct selector, and having to push the stock sideways is just a minor annoyance that I can live with. Besides, what else can you expect out of a cheap commie rifle.

Hey, it's an AK. I just filed mine down and smoothed up with a stone. 15 minute job. Trick is to have some decent files. I took most of the metal off with a 8" fine file then rounded the corners with one of my Brownell gunsmith file set files and finished up with one of my Brownells gunsmith stone set stones.

I also used masking tape around the tab to keep from a slip of the file marking up the reciever. Safety works great now. With the stock folded the upper tab is used to move the lever. Other tab just clears the cut out with a bit to spare. Still plenty of tab to get purchase for operating with the stock deployed.

Definitely much nicer than having the safety hang up with the stock folded.
