i  have been told that the yugo sks is heavy,is there a certain country that may have produced these with lighter stocks

Yugos are heavy because of the added weight of the grenade launcher/sight/gas block/butt pad. I have a Chinese version and its stock is no heavier than the Yugo. If you would like to reduce the Yugo's weight, cut the barrel down. Someone cut theirs down, chopped the front sight and relocated the it to the gas block. But if one does all of that, ya might as well just get an AK. Buy a Romy and a receiver, some U-screw-rivet thingys; and for the same ca$h, ya get 30 round mags ta boot.

Nope just the Yugo, i like it i think it looks evil >:) also all the metal on a yugo is milled and not stamped, I think this adds to the weight but also increases the quality in mu opinion.

I have never seen a stamped SKS, do you what country of origin? I'll have to keep my eyes open. my dad has owned sks's since the 80's, he prefers the russian and chinese, and said he has never seen a stamped receiver sks.

I don't know about the other variants, but I believe virtually all Chinese SKS's are stamped rather than milled. I have nearly a dozen Norincos and they are all stamped.

My chinese is milled.  You must be thinking of the trigger group...as I am 98% certian that all SKS's are milled.

The chinese made some later production models that had stamped receivers according to simonov.net  Lots of good info here.
