I just traded on the EE for a really nice looking SKS, It has the underfolding bayonet, grenade sights, etc.
My questions are:

Can I take off the bayonet, and use an aftermarket stock that says it's for the rifle with "no bayonet"? is thier any difference in the ones with or without the bayonet?

With that said I would also like to find a nice aftermarket stock. I have heard the ATI ones are crap is that true?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

The stocks made for bayonets have a groove in them for the bayo to fit in. I like the ATI monte carlo stock. The other models suck.

Thanks for the reply, so does that mean I can take the bayonet off and use a stock that does not have the groove?
Or are the dimensions different for the rifles with the bayonet, as opposed to the ones with out.
Sorry if this sounds stupid, but this is the first one of these I have ever had.

Yes you can take off the bayonet.

I like the ATI stock but it does need to be modified. I have one with the ATI and one Choate. The Choate is most comfortable out of the box. They move the pistolgrip forward for some unknown reason though. I don't like it because of that, but if you have short fingers it's good. If you take a half round file to the ATI Dragunov and fit it to your hand It's a lot better. I hate the factory stocks so anything is better than that except a Ramline. I don't like those.

Then there is the wood option. Buy a Weatherby blank(factory second$40.00) from Calico Hardwoods and make your own. Did that to and it turned out nice, My Cadillac SKS. But the one I shoot the most is the ATI stocked one.
