A friend of mine bought an SKS. He has cleaned it and cleaned many more times. We took it  out to shoot it and it will not feed another round after you fire it. So we took it in and cleaned it again(I think you get the idea that it has been cleaned ALOT). We took it back out and tried shooting it again and the same thing happened. It shoots the chambered round but will not eject it. The bolt is is coming back about 1/3 of the way open when you shoot it. This is a new problem to me. Another friend had bought one also at the same time and his is shooting fine. He had the same problem at first with his but after another cleaning it works fine. Please let me know what to try. Thanks.

First of all, what kind of SKS is it?  If it is a Yugo 59/66, then the problem is likely the gas system.  Depending on the problem, there are a variety of solutions.  Post back for more info.

You didnt say,but if it is a yugo,is the gas cut off button in the semi postion? That would be down and to the right, blocking the grenade launcher lader sight. You said you cleaned it,however did you remove the op rod and spring to clean? When you take the gas tube and piston off, lift the lever up a little more and the op rod will pop out under spring tension.A lot of people forget to clean out the cosmo for this area.Get a flashlight and look into the chamber, make sure it isnt pitted. Also look at the extractor on the bolt and make sure it isnt damaged. To test for a gas leak, put a piece of tape over the junction of the gas tube and gas block and fire a round, watching the tape.If it comes flying off,you have a leak there.Good luck.

It is a Yugo. Yes it was stripped all the way down. I have had SKS's and I have never had this problem with any of mine but all of mine were bought with the "junk" cleaned off of them already. Hopefully we get it shooting. I was hoping some of you guys had some ideas and experience about this problem. I appreciate all your guys help. Feel free to keep giving me advice. Thanks.

That's a gas problem. The gas is leaking which means there isn't enough pressure to push the bolt back after each shot. You need a new gas valve. I had the same problem and this completely solved the problem:

weld the gas tube on/clean chamber with 20 ga. copper brush and solvent/turn the spring rod in the Bolt carrier the opposite way(couldve been put on backwards)/use epoxy where gastube and gas port meets. no more jams or feed problems.
