Can you nice people help out a guy who knows nothing about the SKS rifle. I want to purchase one but have know idea which one is good to shoot and will hold value. Funny thing is, Im an HK collector and just bought a Romanian Ak-47 and love it so I thought I would try something else. Hk collection is posted and the ak is also with pics on both. Thanks.

Most of the ones with milled receivers are good.  This would be Russian, Romanian, Yugoslavian and some Chinese made models, I believe.   The most collectible are probably the Russian and Romanian.  You'd like have to find one on Gunbroker.com or such.  I checked the other day and found many SKS rifles.

If you have a C&R license, you can order from several distrubutors.  Check out AIM surplus and Internordnance.  They have Yugoslavian models.  AIM has the M59 which is pretty much identical to the Russian M45 (plain SKS w/ underfolding bayonet) and the M59/66 (same, but with muzzle attached grenade launcher, fold down grenade site and a gas cutoff).   AIM appears to be down to 'shooter grade' on the 59/66, and the M59 I received last week would be a 'shooter grade'.  It's not really pretty, mismatched wood and parts, worn finish, but very shootable.   Interordnance has several grades of the 59/66, from shooter to unissued (the unissued pretty much ARE unissued rifles, and will be in excellent condition), but they have no M59s.

You can check pawn shops, online auction sites, and gun shows, and usually find SKSs.  It would be hard to find one that is just completely junk, as the SKS is a VERY reliable design, and is very robust.

Go to Dunhams and get the Yugo, 59/66, it is on sale still packed in cosmo for $138.00. I am really kicking around the idea of going and getting another one. If you don't have any Dunhams in Ohio make the trip to Pittsburgh we have a few in this area. Or, I could always go and get ya one.

Shott, she looks nice!  I think I'm gonna have to get me one.

I am going to order another M59, as I like the basic SKS better than with all the add on stuff of the 59/66.   Just have to have one for the collection, tho.   I think it will be the beginning of my SKS collection... then I'll need a Russian, one with hardwood, one with laminate... then a Chinese, and a Chinese paratrooper, a Romanian and an Albanian....  and probably a few of each, just to be sure.

Not to sound mean but that is waaay to much for the Norinco. The Russians are not even bringing in that much.

Yeah, I was going to say something like that.  I'm not ready to drop near that much, even on a Russky, when I can get a few Yugos for under $180.
