I've read about how unrealible the 30rd mags are. How about the 10rd. fixed mag? I want to replace my 5rd. factory mag. I've got a Norinco para. Thanks Steven |
| If never had any problems with either the 10 round or 5 round fixed mags. The one thing you may want to check though is the legality in your area. There was some reason that a 5 round mag was installed and my guess is that with the number of "assault rifle" features on your gun, going to a 10 round mag may be enough to make it illegal. Check your local laws to see what the rules are, but if it was legal, I would expect the 10 round fixed mags to work just fine. |

Norinco Para with a 5 round mag? You don'y mean an SKS that uses detachabvle SKS that uses AK mags do you? If so, then you've got nothng to worry about. Get some 30s and rock on! It's the SKS rifles with the original fixed 10 round mags that need to stick with the 10s. The aftermarket 30s that retorfit onto these are not reliable. |
That message got corrupted somehow. It should read:
There are two type of SKSs made by Norinco. There is the regular SKS which uses a fixed 10 round magazine. This is the original SKS configuration and is manufactured in many other countries. The second is the SKS-D, a Chinese modification that uses regular AK magazines, and these usually come with a detachable 5 round magazine. In fact, these are the only ones I've ever seen that come stock with a 5 round maagzine. In other words, is your SKS set up to use SKS mags or AK mags? If you can use AK mags then just buy some 30 round AK magazines and have fun. If you have to use SKS mags then I would recomend getting the fixed 10 round magazine. |
| Hoplophile maybe my sks is'nt a norinco. The guy I purchased it from said he had it over 10 years(unfired) and said it was a norinco. The rifle is marked with a triangle and a "made in china". When I said para I meant paratrooper. The barrel is 16.5" long, a spike bayo, and a non-removeable(I think) 5rd. magazine that rocks downward(has matching #'s). I had a polytech legend and a mak 90. When you say AK mags do you mean these type of mags? |

I little searching will turn up a wealth of SKS info, including how to interpret the triangle stamp (with a number, perhaps?) to determine when and where it was made.....I don't remember the site offhand, and didn't think to bookmark it, but I know its out there. Chances are, if its got made in china stamped on it, its a Norinco SKS. FOTBR |
Yes. There is a variant that uses AK mags like the ones for your PolyTech, and then there's the regular version. If yours doesn't use the AK mags then you should get the 10rd fixed mag. That 5 round mag was probably added later to make it leagal for hunting. |
