I took my Yugo sks out deer hunting. I tracked a deer in the snow and ended up 50 yards from him. When I raised the rifle and pulled the trigger, I got a click. I racked the bolt, pulled the trigger, click. The third time I pulled the trigger, deer down. Luckily he stood there while I fucked around.

The rifle is clean of all cosmoline. The ammunition was Federal soft point. Do I need stronger springs?

Has the rifle fired fine before?  Did the primers have dents?

I think SKS sears are bad about letting the hammer creep forward before releasing them. My girlfriend has a norinco that if you pull the trigger too slow, the hammer creeps and by the time it releases it doesnt get to hit hard enough to set off the primer. If you snatched the trigger quickly then no problem. My 2 cents...
BTW, we fixed it by removing the sear, not an easy task for me, and "reprofiling" the sear. Have not had any FTFire issues since.

That ^

Or just a weak hammer spring. I had good sear engagement but still light strikes...Got a new spring from murrays, haven't had one since.

The primers had dents and I had fired the rifle before. Pretty accurate, too. I hit him in the heart. I'll check out murray's.
