Not sure if this is the right forum for this question so mods please move it if need be. I have an SKS model D that uses the AK mags. I have never disassembled the gas piston portion of the gun. Always just cleaned the barrel, bolt and bolt carrier. Since the front of the piston portion is pinned on I'm assuming I will have to drive the pin out in order to remove that assembly.

Should I do this or not? The gun shoots just fine but I'm wondering if it's time to take the gun down a bit further for a better cleaning. What do you experts say?

No, no, no.
Piston comes right out of the gas tube.
Don't unpin anything.

Rotate the locking lever to 12 o'clock.
Pull the gas tube up and out away from the gas block.
Piston slides right out.

Thank you Colonel,

After a bit of judicious work with a screwdriver I got the stupid thing out. Gun is all clean now and reassembled. I knew it was supposed to come out fairly easily but all the videos show the ones with the adjustment on the end and mine did not have that. We're good to go now, appreciate the help!
