I need a little help from you SKS fellas. A friend of mine bought a Chinese SKS that someone was going to put a Fibre Force stock and a Red Star scope mount on. He bought the rifle in pieces and asked me to put it together for him. The problem is the latch assembly is missing and I'm not familiar enough with SKS's to know what parts he needs and where to get them. Is the mount worth putting on the rifle and will it work with the stock latch setup? Thanks.

IMO purchasing the latch and pin is the easy part, installing is something different. The installation of the small pin is a press fit. So here are a couple of choices to install it.

1) use a small vise grip, but push in little by little (tighten), do not try to install the small pin all at once... You may need to use a pair of needle nose pliers to hold the small pin.....

or

2) Take the stock off and put the rifle in a vice (use something so the jaws don't score the receiver). Then start the large pin past the first hole in the side of the receiver, then turn the lever down and shim under the large pin with a small nut or something, so you have some backing for the large pin against the receiver. Then, hold the small pin with a needle nose pliers and use a small hammer to drive the small pin into the hole.

Good luck

That's wierd, I just thought of doing it that way and then I figured I better check the forum here and see how to do it the right way. Thanks Sir!

OK take a small nut, put it under the latch..  Turn the latch so that the small pin is facing down and you should be able to tap it out, use a thin nail unless you have a set of punches.....   Let us know how it works...

I had to grind the head off of the pin and then use a punch to get it out. I'm going to use a small machine screw and ram it in for now. I already ordered another latch and pin. Thanks for the help!
