Not the thing you want to happen.  Live rounds going everywhere.

Some history:
Chinese SKS bought in mid-80's.  Fired a few times with no problems and packed away.
Brought it out, put a Monte Carlo stock on it and had a trigger job.

Went out to try her out and dog gone it if the mag didn't pop open on its own while I was firing.

The spring seems tight enough and the mag cover closes right up to the clasp.

Any ideas are much appreciated.

You said 'trigger job'. Did the trigger job involve modifying the sear spring that also supplies tension to the mag catch?

Does the mag catch release with the original stock?

Tom Prince aka kivaari performed the trigger job which, I believe, involved replacement of the springs among other things.

Does the mag catch release with the original stock?
The catch did not release while firing with the original stock.

The obvious question is does the new stock interfere with the mag catch?

The magazine release lever should be covering the entire lip of the magazine, sound like something is really loose for it to pop out like that.

The stock does not interfere with the release and the release fully engages the catch.

BTW, the mag doesn't open right away or even after the same number of rounds have been fired.

I've held the magazine while firing and can't say I notice any movement, but then with the recoil, I doubt I would.

Ask kivaari  is he has any ideas. I'm suspecting your sear spring is too weak.

As suggested, I've sent off an email to kivaari.  I'll report back after receiving a response.

Thanks.
