I am looking for a Saiga 7.62x39 forend for a project im working on.  Does anyone make a wooden one as ive never seen one for sale?

Do any of you have any pictures of ones they have either cut vent slots in or have acuired that way? (plastic or wood)  That was my plan whether i had to track down just a synthetic or found a wood one that looked good.

Lastly are there any good sources for Saiga parts such as the forend and barrel parts?

If your curious to my motive i am planning on using them on my Romanian ak once i figure out a good way to mount it.  Once i have one in hand ill know what im working with.

Thanks,

Major

This is a 308 Saiga.
The handgaurd was belt sanded down.
I used a DDR gas piston / upper handgaurd.
Then I ground slots in the lower to match.
The rail is hacked out of a lame B-square scope mount.
The sling thing is hack out of a scope ring.
A Yugo pistol grip is mounted as a vfg.

I've been refinishing everything in socom black Norrels Moly resin.  I've already changed the vfg.  I'll add another pic when completed.

As for putting a Saiga handgaurd on a Romy,  I'll go down to the bunker and check out the fit.  I've got an extra black 223 stock, that should work well.
I'd bet that you would want an extra long pin holding the gas block on. (slot in handgaurd for that.
You'd also need a hole in the bottom front of the reciever.

edit-
ok you would have to remove the lower handgaurd retainer.
Also, you would have to grind off your bayonet lug off of your gas block,
Plus the long pin and hole in reciever above.

I'd say the bayo lug removal thing should nix this idea.

im me if you still want a plastic handgaurd.  As for other barrel parts, people remove gas blocks and front sight bases from there Saigas all the time so they can put military stuff on.  So put a wanted post in the EE.

Go check out BattleRiflgeG3's stuff on the Saiga Forum

I don't think he's taking new orders until after the first of the year, but his stuff is top notch.

You could also add a lower retainer ring and use standard AK furniture. Check out Dinzag on the same forum. You can either press off the FSB and gas block and install one, or get the split piece and install. Either way, you'd be able to use standard stuff.
