Getting these non-factory 5.56mm AK's to feed reliably is difficult at times. I've had 2 that were converted from original configuration to accept hi-cap 30rd mags and neither one worked 100% (maybe 90%, not acceptable). I believe both were converted from 5.56mm Saiga's. Now the Norinco 5.56's (with Norinco mags), SAR-3 (with Weigar mags), and the SLR-106FR (with Bulgy CLEAR waffles) I had worked fine. |
Check out the links I posted on this thread. |

here is a pic of the case damage I was talking about. (pic in post 1) hopefully it will work with bulgarian mags, the builder said it was designed to work with bulgy mags. I will get a pic of the feedramp tommorow. Based on the pic in the thread by MAK my feed ramp is too short. |
| I don't know the reason why, but it sounds like your cases are sticking in the chamber. That's why the recoil feels heavy and also why it's ripping chunks of metal off their rims. I would try individually feeding each cartridge and see if the problems persist. If they do it likely has nothing to do with the feed ramp. |
I wasn't posting anything in regards to the OP's problem. I simply answered BIGGER_HAMMER's question of where to get a bullet guide for his conversion. That's why I quoted his question in my reply. Would a 15% heavier recoil spring slow down the force of ejection??? |
Make your own!! Really easy out of a piece of pipe nipple. Just make sure that you make the "bump" on the front of it to kick the bullet up high enough to enter the chamber. A small bead of weld will usually do it, then shape to fit and feed with a dremel tool. Drill/tap the trunnion, install with red locktite and a appropriate screw Also make sure the bolt will close with and with out a round in the chamber.(Ask me how i learned this... )Mine feeds 100% with modified Weigers and modified Bulgarian Waffles. Mag mod takes about 5 min to do once you figure it out. KyAKGuy |
I wasn't really trying to contradict you, just thinking of how to isolate the problem. If he manually feeds each round into the chamber and the heavy recoil and damaged cases persist, then that would indicate that feeding isn't the problem and if the problems disappear, then the problem is more likely to be with the feed ramp and the mag. |

Check out a 106 barrel ramp and bullet guide. The 106 guide is pretty steep and the face of the chamber has a ramp ground into it - this helps with guiding the neck of the case into the chamber itself. I think this is where a lot of 5.56 Saigas run into trouble - the neck of the cartridge gets hung up on the face of the chamber. My Siaga has had the trunnion milled to accept unmodified 5.45 mags with 5.56 followers. If I shoot the weapon clean and dry I will get several rounds FTF (case neck stuck on face of barrel/chamber). If I CLP the heck out of the face of the chamber/barrel then everything feeds 100%. It seems obvious to me that the chamber face needs a ramp ground it like the SLR 106 As a test - try lubing the heck out of the chamber face and bullet guide to see if things feed any better/different. I know some folks have dremeled their own ramps into the barrel with good success but I am not WESCOG certified just yet and don't feel like taking a dremel to my Siaga...I'm going to let my builder do it! |

I cleaned and lubed before I tested it this time after I was getting multiple FTF after the last run. Still had the same problems. Looks like I am just going to send it back with some of my mags to the builder and let him figure it out ![]() The bottom of the trunion and mag catch were milled or cut to allow use of unmodified mags. Finally, anyone have ideas about the intense recoil and case damage? seems like carrier is flying back pretty fast, maybe a new recoil spring or gas port was drilled too large. Also got some pretty good trigger slap w/ tapco G2 but I think that is probably due to the fast moving carrier |

and recoil is nearly that of a 7.62 AK. now I dont know what would cause this but seemed kind of unusual
