In order to change out the rifle stock for a collapsible stock and pistol grip there are a number of parts that will need to be changed in order for it to function correctly and be legal in the US. Do a google search for "Saiga Conversion" and pay special attention to parts that address required 922r compliance parts.

Unfortunately it is not as easy as it might initially seem and modification is also required to take higher capacity magazines. When everything is said and done you will probably be better off buying a SAR-3 that can take most AK-74 5.56 mags than converting the Saiga and converting to and finding Galil mags.

There are unfortunate reasons that Saigas are very inexpensive. They come with lots of drawbacks.

OUch!  Buy an SAR-3 instead of a Saiga, why?

Saiga's are a russian AK.  The finest quality you can get for the price, besides a Vepr.  Chrome lined bore and a tripple locking lug unlike several other AK's.  I have to admit the finish on the receiver of a Saiga needs work, but thats nothing you can't fix easily.  Saiga's are probably the most accurate AK second only to Vepr's.

I have converted a 7.62x39 and a .308 saiga.  They are easy.  The only tools that I really needed were a dremel, standard head screw driver, hand held drill and well thats about it!

I used some small nuts and bolts to attach the 7.62x39 trigger guard and pistol grip.  Then when I converted my .308 Saiga I used JB Weld.  Both worked great.  And both look great when you get a nice even coat of Black engine spray paint on them.

Do your research and then decide for yourself!

The conversion to a folding stock is best left to a pro (Unless you are very experienced at setting rivits). The rest of a Saiga conversion is a piece of cake for a person of average skills.

Converting the expensive Galil mags is not necessary, conversion of the much cheaper standard AK74 Bakalite mags is simple, Just use the Robinson Arms .223 Followers & you should be good to go. They worked fine for me.

Converting a Saiga to pistol grip configuration is not too hard... Getting it to use high capacity mags is a little more difficult. I am not a gunsmith and rarely worked on guns before , but I have been able to do the conversion. The good thing about doing the Saiga conversion is the pride you feel after doing it. Good Luck...........Photo of my Saiga .223

I have never regreted getting my Saiga and I kick my self often for buying a WASR instead of another Saiga.
